Ryan Gebhardt netted five goals, senior
Max Bailey dished out four assists, and No. 14/No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse defeated Colorado College 13-5 Sunday, in a non-conference, neutral-site game played at Johns Hopkins' Homewood Field.
Junior attackman
Brendan Monteleone totaled two goals and an assist, and freshman
Brendan Sullivan and senior
Dean Peluso each also added two goals for the Ducks, who their 13th straight season opener. It was the second time in the last six seasons that Stevens opened the season away from campus.
John Sutro scored twice and Max Rieser had a goal and an assist for Colorado College, who fell to 0-2. The game is believed to be just the second-ever meeting between the programs with the first taking place in Hoboken in 2015. Stevens has won both meetings.

Gene Peluso. "We are pleased with both the defense and the offense, and how they played against a very physical and athletic Colorado College team."

Ryan Caplis as the Ducks netted six unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead late in the first quarter. Junior

Jason Coyle and Sullivan each registered an assist to round out Stevens' scoring. Sullivan's three-point performance were the first collegiate points for the Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania native. In total, nine first-year players made their collegiate debuts, as freshmen

Senior
Carson White made 13 saves to earn the victory. His eighth save of the afternoon on Rieser's third-quarter shot was the 500th career stop of White's distinguished career on Castle Point. The afternoon's performance moved the Downingtown, Pennsylvania native into seventh place all-time in career saves. Brice Tucker made nine saves in defeat for the Tigers.
"Carson played a great game and he was a big reason for our team's success," Peluso offered. "I am thrilled that Carson reached the 500-save milestone. To do that against the great teams we play each year is impressive and Carson has been a steady and strong performer for us throughout his career."
Reisser beat White on the game's first possession to open scoring. The Ducks fired three straight shots at Tucker on its first possession before the Tigers were successful on the game's first clear attempt. Colorado College finished the day 12-for-15 on clear attempts, while Stevens went 13-for-17.
White stopped Sutro, which led to Stevens' first goal of the year, coming on an a strong individual move from Gebhardt. The reigning Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year totaled two goals and two assists in last season's season opener. Gebhardt netted his second of the game just 75 seconds later, turning a Bailey pass into the back of the net. Bailey's four assists brought the Millersville, Maryland native's career point total to 231.
Peluso pushed the advantage to two just 41 seconds later, before Gebhardt scored three straight goals to hand Stevens a 6-1 lead. The Baldwinsville, New York native netted 11 hat tricks as a freshman. Sutro ended the run with an unassisted goal with 3:02 remaining in the opening quarter.
Bailey fed Peluso for a goal to open second-quarter scoring, before Radbourne scored with man-advantage to push the margin to six. Monteleone added an 'Up' goal one minute later as the Ducks held a 9-4 advantage at the intermission.
Stevens scored three times in the third quarter, while holding Colorado College to just four shots. Sullivan netted a pair of goals, while Caplis added the third. The Ducks won both faceoffs in the third stanza and forced five Tiger turnovers to take control of the game.
Monteleone scored his second of the game and Elliott Nelson found the back of the net for Colorado College on the game's final possession to close out the scoring.
For the day, Stevens outshot Colorado College, 52-29, including a 22-18 margin in shots on goal. Gebhardt led all players with 13 shots, while Peluso fired eight. Rieser led the Tigers with seven.
Defensively, junior
Bubba Brennan matched Colorado College's Jack Ammons and John Lawrence with a game-high two caused turnovers, as each team forced nine miscues by their opponent. Senior
Nicholas Carnovale led all players with 10 ground balls as the Ducks outearned the Tigers 33-28 in ground balls. Carnovale also won 10 faceoffs.
As a team, the Ducks killed off both of their penalties, while converting three of eight opportunities with the man-advantage.
Up Next: No. 14/No. 13 Men's Lacrosse welcomes Endicott College to the DeBaun Athletic Complex for the 2019 home opener. Stevens is 69-16 on campus under Peluso. The Ducks have won each of the last three meetings with the Gulls.
