Women's Basketball Falls to Hartwick in E8 Semifinal

Anna Toke registered her 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

ONEONTA, N.Y. (February 22, 2019)  – Graduate student Anna Toke registered her 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to Hartwick College 72-52 in an Empire 8 Semifinal game Friday evening at Lambros arena. 

Sophomore Maddi Hahn led the Ducks with 15 points while Empire 8 Rookie of the Year Jess Broad followed with 14 points. Stevens finishes the 2018-19 season with a 17-9 record, marking head coach Megan Haughey's seventh-straight winning record at the helm of the program. 

The Hawks were paced by Kelly Pine with a game-high 21 points and Mary Schoenherr with her near triple-double of 13 rebounds, 13 assists and eight points. Hartwick improved to 22-4 on the year and will take on the Cardinals of St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Championship game tomorrow, Feb. 23, at 3:30 P.M. 

Toke, the First Team All-E8 honoree, finishes her career at Stevens with 874 points and 886 rebounds. The Lincoln Park, New Jersey native leaves the program leading in career field goal percentage (.525) and total blocks (142). 

Inside the Numbers
  • Schoenherr's 13 assists mark the best in E8 history, breaking Stevens' Dani Dudek's record of 12. 
  • Broad dished out a team-high five assists and freshman Allie Moss recorded a team-best four steals. 
  • Hartwick shot 47.6% from the field, while the Ducks finished with 29.5%.
  • The Hawks outrebounded Stevens, 42-38.
  • The Ducks held the edge in second-chance points, 10-4.
  • 36 of Hartwick's 72 points were scored in the paint.
  • Stevens finished 14-of-18 from the line for a free throw percentage of 77.8.
  • The Hawks knocked down seven three-pointers, while the Ducks only registered two.

  • "I thought tonight we faced an excellent team in Hartwick, credit to them," offered coach Haughey. "I am extremely proud of our girls, the season we put together and our growth. Although we came up short tonight, they are an amazing group that play hard and fight."
