BROOKLYN, N.Y. (February 27, 2019) – Junior
David Lehman tallied a team-high 13 kills, but the No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team fell to New York University in four sets (25-22, 18-25, 18-25, 13-25) Wednesday evening in a United Volleyball Conference matchup.
Senior
Jacob Patterson added a team-best 18 assists for the Ducks, who were handed their first conference loss of the season. Stevens is now 13-2 on the year and 4-1 in UVC play.
Alex Li led the Violets with a match-high 15 kills while Matin Bikdeli tallied 37 assists. NYU improved to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Volleys and Points
- The teams opened the first set going point-for-point before NYU took 13-10 lead after two errors by the Ducks and a kill from Tyler Flood.
- Stevens then took a one points lead following three-straight errors by the Violets and a kill by sophomore Jack Bittker.
- The teams continued to trade points before Stevens was able to take a 20-18 advantage after a kill from sophomore Ryan Byrne and an ace by senior Cooper Diamond.
- NYU was able to stay within two points before committing two errors to give Stevens the first-set victory.
- Stevens began the second set with a 3-1 lead after two NYU errors and a Lehman kill.
- A kill by Neil Ferraro followed by four Stevens errors gave the Violets a three-point lead.
- The Ducks brought themselves within one point following an error by NYU and back-to-back kills from Lehman.
- The Violets scored half of the next 14 points on errors by the Ducks to take hold of the second set.
- NYU started the third set with a 6-4 lead, capped off by back-to-back aces from Li.
- Stevens took a one-point lead after three consecutive NYU errors.
- Ferraro earned the Violets next three points, collecting two kills and a block.
- A Lehman kill followed by a kill from senior Dylan DeBoer shortened NYU's lead to one.
- A 5-0 run by the Violets that included two blocks and kill put NYU up 17-11.
- Senior Joshua Hinton delivered his first kill of the season before Diamond and Bittker blocked an attempt by Evan Lindley to bring the Ducks within three points.
- Another 5-0 run by NYU left them one point away from winning the third set.
- Despite a kill from freshman Stedman van Arsdale and an ace from junior Grant Burden, the Ducks committed an attack error to give the Violets their 25th point of the set.
- Flood led NYU to start the final stanza with two kills and a block to put the Violets up 6-2.
- DeBoer and junior Jonathan Frenzel shortened the lead after they each issued a kill.
- Three-straight kills by NYU gave them a 15-9 lead.
- DeBoer and Bittker each set down a pass to bring the Ducks within four.
- The Violets scored six unanswered points to close out the final set.

- Lindley issued a kill to end the match.
