Men's Basketball Falls to Alfred in OT

ALFRED, N.Y. (February 8, 2019)  – Despite senior Ryan Coffey shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team fell to Alfred 78-64 in overtime in Friday evening's Empire 8 Conference matchup at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena. 

Coffey finished the night with 16 points while classmate Frank Amari chipped in 13 points. Sophomore Alec DiPietrantonio led on the boards with nine rebounds as the Ducks fell to 14-9 on the year and 7-7 in E8 action.

The Saxons saw four player score in double-digits, led by Dom LeMorta with a game-high 24 points. Sage Brown recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards to help Alfred improve to 16-4 overall and 9-2 in the E8.

Stevens took control in the first half, going on a 16-2 run to take a 16-point lead. The Saxons then went a run of their own, scoring 13 unanswered points to shorten their deficit to three. Coffey hit a three-pointer followed by two good free throw from senior Kevin Florio, but LeMorta knocked down a three with 29 seconds left in the first half to bring Alfred within two points heading into halftime. 

LeMorta opened the second half with a good jumper to tie the game up. Senior Conor Barron answered with a shot from three-point land, followed by a fastbreak layup to put Stevens back in the lead. 

With 2:17 left in regulation, Brown made a layup to put Alfred up by one point. Just over a minute later, Amari was fouled and made one of his shots from the charity stripe to tie the game at 64 and send the teams into overtime.
