PLANT CITY, Fla. (March 17, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team split their doubleheader with Babson College on Sunday at the Sunkissed Games in Florida.
Game One
The Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jamie Hoffman singled through the right side to bring in Ashley Tango for the first run of the game.
Tango tallied another run in the bottom of the third when Alex Corrigan singled to right field, putting Babson up 2-0.
Brooke Stock led Babson on the mound with six strikeouts and only allowed three hits.
Senior
Christine LaRochelle pitched the first five innings for the Ducks before sophomore
Jessie Masur took the mound for the sixth. Each pitcher tallied one strikeout.
Game Two
Stevens took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore
Madison Gemma hit a two-run homer for her first homerun of the season.
The Ducks extended their lead to five when senior
Samantha Schattin doubled to left field and sent sophomore
Siobhan Cottell and junior
Victoria Kapp home.
Senior
Katie Tirabassi reached first base on a bunt that allowed Schattin to score in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman
Meg Halloran added another run for Stevens after scoring on a passed ball.
Babson registered their first run of the game in the sixth when Corrigan doubled to right center to send Jacqueline Paul home.
Inside the Numbers
- Poska recorded her first collegiate hit in the first game of the day.
- Gregule, Alfonso and Tirabassi each collected four putouts in the first game.
- In the second game, Schattin tallied three hits while Halloran, Tirabassi and Kapp each registered two.
- Halloran and Tirabassi both stole a base in game two.
