#38 Men’s Tennis hot start pushes them past Haverford

Men's Tennis moves their winning streak up to two

HAVERFORD, PA. (March 28, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Institute of Technology men's tennis team traveled to Pennsylvania on Tuesday for a non-conference match against Haverford College. This was a make-up after the match was postponed due to inclement weather in the beginning of the month. Stevens swept the doubles competition and never looked back as they took out Haverford College in Alumni Field House 6-3 to improve to 3-6 on the season; Haverford falls to 3-5.

"I'm very proud of how our guys competed last night, especially in doubles," remarked Head Coach Steve Gachko. "We were down in all three matches; down two breaks to start the match at 1st doubles and we saved match point at 3rd doubles. Our guys never let up and played to win."

#16 nationally ranked Sophomore Bryan Szayna and freshman Marc Feliu Gomez got the Ducks on the board by posting a solid 8-5 win in the first doubles flight. The sophomore duo of Mark Kanevsky and Arjun Krishnan followed up with an 8-5 victory of their own in the No. 2 doubles flight. Sophomore Keegan Morris and sophomore Gabriel Sifuentes were in a tight match against their Haverford opponents in the third doubles flight. The duo gritted out an 8-7 (7-3) win to complete the doubles sweep and give the Ducks a 3-0 lead heading into the singles competition.

Marc Feliu Gomez kept it rolling for the Ducks by posting a straight-set win in the No. 1 singles flight and increased Stevens lead to 4-0. Haverford responded by winning the second doubles flight but Mark Kanevsky clinched the match for the Ducks after winning a three set match 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Arjun Krishnan rounded out the scoring for Stevens by taking the No. 3 singles flight in a great match with Pranav Krishnan 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

Head Coach Steve Gachko was pleased with the team's effort and is looking forward to the weekend's three matches. "Haverford is a very tough and tricky team, especially on the road. I am very excited to build upon our success from last night heading into the weekend."

Up Next: The Stevens Men's tennis team has a big weekend coming up starting with their first conference competition of the year against Houghton College and Alfred University on March 30th. The Ducks will then travel to Rochester, NY for a non-conference match up with the University of Rochester on March 31st.
