ALBANY, N.Y. (March 31, 2019)  – Sophomore
Ryan Gebhardt totaled three goals and one assist to lead 19 different players with at least one point, as No 11/No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse won its sixth straight game with a 23-1 victory over The Sage Colleges Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup held at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Field.
Senior
Max Bailey added two goals and a pair of assists and sophomore
Nico Ipeker had a goal and matched a career-high with three assists for the Ducks, who improved to 10-2 on the year and 3-0 in league play. Stevens has won 11 straight regular season conference contests.
David Baraniuk had the lone tally for the Gators, who fell to 5-4 on the year. Sage has dropped both of its league games. It was the first-ever meeting between the programs.
"It was great to get a conference win on the road today," said head coach
Gene Peluso. "I loved the balance we had on both offense and defense. Our scoring was very well spread out. It was great to play every healthy player on our roster for the second day in a row."
Senior
Carson White made two saves in earning his 10th win of the year. All five netminders saw time in the cage, with junior
Jack Braswell, sophomore
Danny Tierney and freshmen
Gio Garcia and
Grant Petracca combining for a pair of saves over the final 44:13. The game closed out a stretch of five games in the last 11 days.
"I was impressed with the way our guys handled back-to-back games," Peluso added. "We have played five games in the last 11 days and I love the way our guys responded."
Brandon Maresca drew the start for Sage and made six saves. Michael Capitelli relieved and stopped five shots.
Freshman
Tyler Ryan netted a pair of goals in producing his second straight multi-goal performance. Juniors
Brendan Monteleone and
Max Ranaldi joined Ryan and sophomore
Sean Kunz in finding the back of the net on two different occasions. Seniors
Dean Peluso and
Eric Radbourne also scored, as did sophomores
Tim Spears,
Owen Stempkovski and
Adam Corby, along with freshmen
Michael Burns,
Hunter Brogan,
Jackson Brown and
Michael Kraus. The goals were the first collegiate tallies for Stempkovski and Kraus.Â
Freshman
Joe Ballai matched Ipeker with three assists, while Gebhardt, Ryan, Peluso, Radbourne and sophomores
Ryan Caplis and
Shawn Coulter each added an assist to round out Stevens' scoring. The team's 23-goal performance matched a season high.
The Ducks came out fast for the second straight game, netting eight goals in the opening period. Stevens has outscored its opponents 63-23 in the first quarter. Bailey began the barrage with his 18th of the year, finding the back of the net on Stevens' second possession. The Ducks extended their advantage to four, with Peluso, Bailey and Gebhardt scoring 1:54 stretch. Gebhardt beat Maresca for the second time and Burns scored one minute later to push the lead to six. Monteleone found the back of the net and Gebhardt completed his eighth hat trick of the year to close out the opening stanza.
Radbourne began second-quarter scoring with his 19th tally, before Ryan scored twice to push the Ducks past double digits. Stevens added six additional goals to reach a 17-goal lead before the intermission.
Sage spoiled the shutout bid midway through the third quarter, before the Ducks scored the final six goals to provide the final margin.
Stevens fired 51 shots on the day, including 34 on-goal. Gebhardt took six shots to lead the Ducks, while Monteleone fired five. Baraniuk and Shea Obado took three shots apiece to lead Sage.
Defensively, Ryan led the Ducks for the second straight game with two caused turnovers as the Ducks forced 26 Sage miscues on the day. Stevens has forced its opponents into 20 or more turnovers on six different occasions.Â
Stevens won 18 of 28 faceoffs, with seniorÂ
Nicholas Carnovale leading the efforts with wins in five of his seven faceoffs. Junior
Connor Murphy won four times in the 'X' and sophomore
Trevor Kiessling added nine victories to round out the efforts. Ryan Adamczak posted a game-high 10 wins to lead Sage. The productivity in the 'X' helped Stevens to a 48-25 edge in ground balls. Kiessling led all players with five ground balls, while Coulter, Ballai and Carnovale each scooped up four. Anthony Rafferty led Sage with four.
Stevens was successful on 11 of its 13 clear attempts, while the Ducks forced Sage into just 48 percent for the game (10 of 21).
The Ducks did not receive a man-up opportunity, but successfully killed off a third-quarter delay of game penalty.
