David Lehman delivered his 1000th kill while classmate
Grant Burden collected his 1000th assist as No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball defeated New York University 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22) in the United Volleyball Conference semifinal match Saturday afternoon at Caldwell University.
Lehman led all players with 22 kills and Burden registered a match-high 48 assists for the Ducks, who improved to 27-4 on the year.
NYU was paced by Neil Ferraro and Evan Lindley with 14 kills apiece. The Violets ended their season with a record of 13-11.
Volleys and Points
- The Ducks jumped on a 5-3 lead to start the match after a kill by junior Jonathan Frenzel and a block by Burden.
- NYU tied the set with kills from Ferraro and Matin Bikdeli.
- Stevens then scored five-straight as Burden delivered an ace and senior Cooper Diamond and sophomore Jack Bittker each collected a kill.
- Bikdeli and Flood ended the streak with a block.
- Two errors and a block by Frenzel and Bittker put the Ducks up 16-8.
- The Violets cut the lead following a kill by Ferraro and an ace by Lindley.
- Lehman set down a pass from Burden to bring Stevens five points away from winning the set.
- Frenzel and Diamond each delivered a kill and the Violets registered an error to put Stevens up 24-14.
- The Ducks then committed three-straight errors before Bittker set down a pass from sophomore Ryan Byrne to end set one.
- NYU began the second set with a 5-2 advantage after kills from Bikdeli and Lindley and a service error by the Ducks.
- Stevens cut the lead to one as Byrne and Bittker each set down passes from Burden.
- The teams traded points until the Violets took an 18-13 lead on blocks by Lindley, Tyler Flood and James Haag along with a kill from Lindley.
- The Ducks cut their deficit to one point once again when NYU committed two attack errors, Lehman issued a kill and Byrne blocked an attempt by Alex Li.
- Flood set down two passes from Bikdeli to end the second set.
- Kills from Lehman, Diamond, Byrne and Frenzel helped give the Ducks a 6-3 edge to open the third set.
- The Violets came within two points following a kill by Lindley and an attack error by Lehman.
- Back-to-back kills from Lehman gave Stevens a six-point lead.
- NYU answered with a block by Ferraro and Bikdeli and an ace from John Arege.
- With the Ducks up 21-16, a Stevens service error, a block by Li and Ferraro and a kill by Li brought the Violets within two.
- One kill apiece from Lehman and Byrne and an error by NYU brought Stevens one point away from winning the set.
- Lehman set down a pass from Burden after the Ducks committed an attack error to end the third stanza.
- After trading the first few points of the fourth set, NYU took a 6-3 lead following two Stevens' errors and a kill from Bikdeli.
- A 5-0 run by the Ducks that included three consecutive errors by the Violets put Stevens up 9-7.
- Ferraro and Lindley collected a block before Ferraro registered a block to tie the set at 10.
- Lindley committed a service error before Frenzel and Burden recorded a block to give the Ducks a two-point lead.
- Flood brought the Violets within one before back-to-back kills from Lehman kept Stevens in the lead.
