Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader with Ramapo

Softball fell 5-1 in game one of the doubleheader against Ramapo before winning game two 4-2.

MAHWAH, N.J. (April 3, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team fell 5-1 in game one of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader against Ramapo College before winning game two 4-2 at the Athletic Center.

Game One (L, 5-1)
The Roadrunners opened game one with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Krista Verrino registered an RBI double to begin the scoring. After Carli Egan singled to second base to push Verrino to third, Kristen Ruggiero reached on a fielder's choice as Egan was tagged out, but Verrino sprinted home for the second run of the inning.

Verrino tallied the third run for Ramapo in the third inning when she stole third base and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

Senior Katie Tirabassi put the Ducks on the board after her single to the shortstop sent home classmate Julia DeCandia in the fourth inning. Ramapo followed with two runs in the bottom of the inning to keep their distance.

Game Two (W, 4-2)
Stevens opened the scoring in game two thanks to an RBI single to left field from freshman Meg Halloran in the top of the second.

DeCandia added run number two in the fourth when she singled down the right field line to bring home freshman Lexi Gregule.

Ramapo tied the game at two in the bottom of the fifth after Olivia Wang singled to left field before advancing to second on the throw, allowing Verrino and Howarth to score.

The Ducks answered in next inning with a sac-fly from junior Melissa Alfonso to send Gregule past home plate once again. After junior Samantha Schattin and Halloran each registered base hits, Tirabassi singled to left field to bring Stevens' fourth run of the game.
