No. 5 Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Juniata and Arcadia on Senior Day

The Ducks defeated both Juniata and Arcadia in three sets in Stevens' Senior Day Tri-Match.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 6, 2019)  – Sophomore Jack Bittker collected 23 kills over two matches as the fifth-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept both Juniata College (25-22, 25-18, 25-19) and Arcadia University (25-23, 25-18, 25-15) on Saturday at Canavan Arena. 

Prior to the Ducks match against Arcadia, seniors Niko Lambert, Joshua Hinton, Jacob Patterson, Dylan DeBoer and Cooper Diamond were recognized for their contributions to the men's volleyball program over their four years. 

Patterson added 60 assists across the two matches for the Ducks, who improved to 26-4 this season. 

Juniata was paced by Quinn Peterson and Leland Hacecky with eight kills apiece. The Eagles fell to 19-7 on the year. 

Quinn Baily led Arcadia with 10 kills and eight digs. The Knights dropped to an overall record of 24-10.

Volleys and Points (Juniata)
  • The Ducks opened the match with a 6-3 lead following back-to-back kills from Bittker and an ace by junior David Lehman
  • Juniata fought back to tie the set at nine when Michael Young issued two kills. 
  • The Eagles traded points with Stevens until an error by the Ducks gave Juniata a one-point lead. 
  • A 6-0 run by the Ducks gave Stevens a 21-16 lead. 
  • David Hibner set down a pass from Young to bring Juniata within two points. 
  • After Hacecky recorded a kill, Bittker followed suit to end the set. 
  • The Eagles began set two with a 6-4 lead after Sean Cavanagh and Kevin Duffy each collected a kill. 
  • Stevens grabbed their first lead of the set when Diamond delivered two kills and a block to put the Ducks up by one. 
  • Two errors by Stevens and a kill from Hacecky put Juniata back in the lead. 
  • Lehman, sophomore Ryan Byrne and junior Grant Burden each registered a kill to give the Ducks a 17-14 advantage. 
  • Stevens took a four-point lead when Hinton collected a kill. 
  • Four-straight points that included a kill from Bittker, a block Lehman and an additional block by Bittker and junior Jonathan Frenzel ended the second set.  
  • The Ducks started the final set with a 3-1 edge following an ace by DeBoer. 
  • Juniata tied it at five after Hibner collected two blocks, one assisted by Peterson. 
  • Stevens began to distance themselves following a 6-0 run thanks to kills from Bittker and DeBoer, an ace by Burden and a block by DeBoer and freshman Stedman van Arsdale
  • Peterson set down a pass from Matt Schaeffer before Lehman was called for a ball handling error, cutting the Eagles deficit to six. 
  • A kill by van Arsdale brought the Ducks one point away from winning the match. 
  • Two errors by the Ducks and one kill apiece from Cavanagh and Duffy brought Juniata within five points. 

Match Point (Juniata)
  • DeBoer set down a pass from Burden to end the match. 

Volleys and Points (Arcadia)
  • Arcadia jumped on a 7-4 lead to begin the match when Jason Manley collected a kill and Robie Moctezuma registered a block. 
  • The Ducks worked at chipping away their deficit for the majority of the first set, until they came within two points following a Lehman kill and two errors by the Knights. 
  • After a service error by Bittker, Stevens took a 20-18 lead when Bittker and DeBoer each tallied a kill and Arcadia committed three errors. 
  • The Knights took back the lead after Austin Braas issued a kill and a block before a Stevens error put Arcadia up 22-21.
  • Two kills by Diamond and one kill from Lehman brought the Ducks one point away from taking the first set. 
  • Anthony Devantier set down a pass from Jarod Pichler before the Knights committed an error to give Stevens the first set victory.  
  • The two teams traded points to open the second set before the Ducks took a 12-11 edge following two errors by Arcadia and a Bittker kill. 
  • After an attack error by Stevens, Lehman issued a kill before a block by Patterson and Diamond and an error by the Knights put the Ducks up 15-12. 
  • Arcadia cut the lead to one when Baily collected a kill and Stevens registered an error. 
  • Five-straight points by the Ducks allowed Stevens to win the second set. 
  • The beginning of the third set saw a 12-2 run by the Ducks as five different players registered at least one kill. 
  • Pichler issued a kill prior to Manley and Amadeus Cannon recorded a block to end the streak. 
  • A Manley kill and a block by Devantier and Collin Nissley cut the lead to seven. 
  • Bittker and Patterson each registered a kill to give Stevens a 21-12 advantage. 
  • Lambert recorded his first kill of the season to extend the lead to nine. 
  • Diamond set down a pass from Patterson to bring the Ducks one point away from winning the match. 

Match Point (Arcadia)
  • Lambert delivered his second kill of the day to end match two. 

Inside the Numbers (Juniata)
  • Stevens outhit the Eagles .318 to .151. 
  • The Ducks registered a .423 hitting percentage in the second set. 
  • Each team tallied eight blocks. 
  • Duffy and Hibner tied for a match-high four blocks. 
  • Frenzel recorded a .444 hitting percentage. 
  • Hinton led Stevens with six digs. 

Inside the Numbers (Arcadia)
  • The Ducks outhit Arcadia .297 to .137.
  • DeBoer registered a career-high 11 digs. 
  • Patterson tied his career-best of three kills. 
  • Bittker and Lehman both recorded a match-high 11 kills. 
  • Braas led all players with a .750 hitting percentage.
