HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 25, 2019) – Led by two goals apiece from junior
Skylar Migliaccio and senior
Ireland Tawney, the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team to a 7-0 win over Drew University Wednesday night at DeBaun Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Ducks have now won four consecutive contests and sit at 6-3 overall as they head into MAC Freedom competition.
Drew, meanwhile, has dropped three straight games and fall to 2-7 on the season.
Tawney got the scoring started for the Ducks in the sixth minute when she was able to deflect a pass from senior
Michaela Thompson over the top of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Tawney then followed it up with another goal in the 31st minute, this time off an assist from
Emma Brunet.
Migliaccio was able to produce the fifth and sixth goals of the game for Stevens in the third quarter. On her first goal, Migliaccio tipped a shot by Thompson just passed the goalkeeper in the 37th minute to make the score 5-0. The junior from Long Valley, New Jersey, then gathered a deflected shot by junior
Jaymie Fiebel in the 43rd minute and deposit it into the back of the net for her second goal of the contest.
Sophomore
Ellie Jenkins, junior
Brynn Froehlich and
Emily Hyde all also scored in the matchup. Hyde, a freshman from Little Falls, N.J., capped the scoring for Stevens with her first goal of her career in the 50th minute.Â
Turning Point
- Leading 1-0 in the second quarter, the Ducks were able to put the game away with a pair of goals in less than two minutes of game action.
- Freshman Natalie Logan started the action with a shot from just inside the circle. Jenkins was able to get her stick on it and deflect it into the left corner of the net.Â
- In the 20th minute, Froehlich was able to beat goalkeeper Joie Slossar thanks to a beautiful pass in front of the goal from Logan to make the score 3-0.
Inside the Numbers
- The Ducks registered a season high in shots with 33 as well as shots on goal with 22.
- The two teams were almost even in penalty corners, with Stevens holding a 12-10 edge.
- Dating back to the 2015 season, the Ducks have now held Drew scoreless in each of their last three contests.
- The seven goals in the contest were the most for the Ducks since defeating Elmira 7-0 on Oct. 21, 2018.
- Emily Franco and Kiera Kennedy combined to post six total saves and registered the second shutout of the year for Stevens.
- Jenkins led the Ducks offensively with six total shots, four of which were on goal.
- With two assists on the night, Thompson has now produced five assists on the season to match her total from the entire 2018 season.
Unsung Hero
- Logan was instrumental all night on the offensive end for the Ducks, producing a pair of assists as well as a shot on goal.

- "Tonight was a great night for a team win, with an emphasis on the team. The offensive output is something we have been focusing on and it clicked tonight because of our cohesive passing and improved communication. I also can't overlook our goalies who were able to combine for the shutout."
