Brunet Scores First Career Goal in OT to Lift Field Hockey to 4-3 Win Over King’s

WILKES-BARRE, PA. (September 28, 2019) – Freshman Emma Brunet netted her first career goal in overtime and junior Skylar Migliaccio scored twice for the second straight game to give the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team a 4-3 victory over King's College Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

Just over two minutes into the first overtime period, Brunet was able to collect a pass from Brynn Froehlich and deposit a shot into the cage to help Stevens win their fifth straight game and move to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in MAC Freedom play.

King's, meanwhile, climbed back from trailing twice to tie the game but fell to 4-5, 0-1 on the season.

Migliaccio started the scoring for the Ducks in the third minute when she shot into the right corner of the goal for her fourth goal of the year. She added her second goal of the contest in the 21st minute with a shot just passed the goalkeeper to give Stevens a 3-2 lead.

Jaymie Fiebel was also able to add a goal for Stevens in the seventh minute to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Ducks.

Turning Point
  • After King's threatened to score in the early part of overtime, Stevens took advantage of their first scoring opportunity of extra time with 62:20 on the clock.
  • Froehlich, a junior from San Diego, California, started the play with a pass in the circle to the feet of Brunet.
  • The freshman out of Ashburn, Virginia, wasted no time depositing the shot into the back of the net to give the Ducks their first win in conference competition.
Inside the Numbers
  • Brunet scored her first career goal after registering her first career assist last time out in the Ducks 7-0 victory over Drew.
  • Migliaccio has now scored multiple goals in a game four times in her career, including twice in the last two contests.
  • This is the second consecutive season Stevens has produced a five-game winning streak, matching the longest for the program since the team won six straight in 2015.
  • The Ducks held an 18-11 edge in total shots as well as a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Michaela Thompson led Stevens with five total shots in the contest while Migliaccio had the most shots on goal with three.
  • Emily Franco made three saves in goal for the Ducks while picking up the win to move her overall record to 7-3.
Unsung Hero
  • Fiebel was extremely efficient in the win, scoring her second goal of the season on just two shots, both of which were on goal.

  • "I am very pleased with the outcome today for our first MAC Freedom game. We had some lapses, but overall the grit the team show to make sure we came out with the win was fantastic."
  • "We have been working on 7v7 and we executed effectively with Emma scoring her first collegiate goal."
