HOBOKEN, N.J. (Nov. 9, 2020) – The Stevens Athletic Department and the Office of Campus Recreation has announced a schedule update for usages of athletic facilities.
Starting on Monday, November 9, Stevens Athletics and Recreation will reopen on-campus indoor athletic and recreational facilities to on-campus students only at limited capacity. The open facilities include the fitness center, pool, pool locker rooms, and Walker basketball court. On-campus varsity student athletes may access the sports medicine facilities and the Walker Gymnasium Varsity Weight Room. For the first week (week of November 9th), only the fitness center, varsity weight room, and sports medicine areas will be available.
Canavan Arena will remain closed for the rest of the semester as it serves as the primary location for on-campus COVID-19 testing.
The operating hours are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. from Monday - Friday and 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday - Sunday unless otherwise specified. Students must enter and exit all facilities in both Schaefer and Walker from the front desk area in the lobby of the Schaefer Center. Stevens is following all New Jersey and NCAA protocols and guidelines and as a result, occupancy of the facilities must be significantly reduced and an on-line reservation system has been implemented to maintain capacity limits and allow for contact tracing, if needed. Time limits will also be strictly enforced to ensure that as many students as possible can work out. The full schedule is as follows:
Walker Gymnasium and Fitness Center
10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday-Friday
12 p.m. – 8 p.m. on weekends
MindBody, a new on-line reservation system, has been implemented to allow a user-friendly way for students to reserve space. The reservation system will open on Sunday, November 8; plans may be adjusted based on the COVID-19 positivity rate. Students will also be required to complete an on-line waiver before accessing the facilities. Below are detailed instructions regarding how to complete this process:
- Please complete your MindBody registration on the Campus Recreation website. Be sure to use your Stevens email address and check the boxes that allow you to receive email and texts.
- You will immediately receive a confirmation email instructing you to log into myStevens and sign the Athletic Department waiver. After the waiver is signed, you will receive a copy via email to keep for your records. If you are under 18 years of age, you must pick up the waiver in person at the Schaefer Center lobby and have it signed by a parent or guardian and then returned to the Schaefer Athletic Center front desk.
- Within 48 hours after you sign the waiver, you will receive a verification email with instructions on how to reserve classes and time slots within the athletic facilities using the MindBody reservation system.
If you have questions about the MindBody reservation system, please email
stevensrec@stevens.edu. If you have general questions about athletic facility use, please email Russ Rogers, Director of Athletics, at
rrogers@stevens.edu.
Outdoor facilities on campus may be used for safe, socially distanced activities with face covers being worn at all times. The schedule has been adjusted to allow for the following hours:
DeBaun Field
10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday-Friday
12 p.m. – 8 p.m. on weekends
Stevens Tennis Courts
10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday-Friday
12 p.m. – 8 p.m. on weekends
As a reminder, only those students who are engaged in on-campus learning will have access to any of the athletic facilities this semester on campus. Those students, including all returning upperclassmen and graduate students living off campus, and first-year, new transfer students and new graduate students who have elected to be fully remote for the fall semester, will not have access until further notice.
The Weehawken track will be open for all Stevens students to use Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. with the following rules:
- Anyone entering and exiting the park area must wear a mask and it may be removed during activity.
- Students must show their school ID to security at the gate if they would like to park their car at the facility while using the track.
