DALLAS, Pa. (March 11, 2020) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team continued its torrid start in Middle Atlantic Conference play with 10 different players registering a kill in a 3-0 sweep of Misericordia University Wednesday at Anderson Center.
Senior
David Lehman led the way with a fantastic showing, putting down 12 kills on 14 total swings for an .857 attack percentage as the Ducks remained undefeated in MAC play this season and pushed their winning streak to five matches.
Junior
Jack Bittker was second on the team with eight kills while adding three blocks and hitting .400 in the match. He did not commit a single error in the match as Stevens finished with just five total errors, four of which came in the third set.
The Ducks finished the contest with a season-best .507 attack percentage as a team while holding the Cougars to .091. The .507 attack percentage is the highest Stevens has produced in a match since hitting .540 against The College of Staten Island on April 8, 2018.
Stevens did not trail in the first two sets and won the first set 25-13, the second set 25-15 and the third 25-17 to earn its 11th sweep of the season.
Volleys and Points
- The Ducks started the opening set by winning nine of the first 12 points of the match thanks to kills from Lehman, Bittker and Jonathan Frenzel.
- Lehman then was able to enforce his will on the Cougars as he put down three kills as a part of a 7-2 run to help Stevens swell the lead to 10 at 16-6.
- Late in the opening set, the Ducks grabbed five of the final seven points in the stanza to clinch the 25-13 victory. Stevens did not commit a single attack error in the opening set.
- Leading 11-9 in the set number two, Stevens got kills by Jack Fyda, Frenzel, Grant Burden and Bittker as a part of a 5-0 run to extend the lead to seven.
- The runs were not done there, however, as the Ducks followed it up with a 6-1 run to make the score 22-11.
- After Misericordia climbed back within nine and fended off a pair of set points, Fyda was able to rise up and put down a kill to help Stevens grab the 25-15 win.
- It was the Cougars who started the third and final set hot as they scored the first three points of the stanza to take their first lead in the match.
- Trailing 15-14 halfway through the set, the Ducks rattled off eight consecutive points featuring three service aces by Louden Moran as well kills by Andrew Amerman, Alexei Nikiforov and Alex Franke.
- The Ducks put the contest away late after a kill by Amerman and a Misericordia attack error sealed the 25-17 win and 3-0 sweep.
Inside the Numbers
- Lehman now has 1,258 career kills to sit fourth in program history, just 126 behind Gabe Shankweiler for third place all-time.
- Behind Lehman and Bittker, both Fyda and Frenzel were third of the team with four kills apiece while Amerman, Ryan Byrne and Nikiforov had three each.
- The Ducks committed zero errors in the opening set and just one in the second en route to their season-best hitting performance.
- Senior Michael Snajder led the way for Stevens with seven digs and had just one receiving error.
- Stevens outblocked the Cougars 6-1 in the match while holding a 4-2 edge in aces, a 40-22 advantage in assists and a 30-23 edge in total digs.
- Burden, who came into the contest ranked second in NCAA Division III in assists per set, increased his season average to 11.15 assists per set to tie him with Matthew Grace of SUNY New Paltz for the best mark in the country
- Moran led the way at the service line for the Ducks as he put down three of the team's four in the match.
Unsung Hero
- Amerman led the way for the Ducks at the net defensively with four blocks while adding three kills on four swings for a .750 attack percentage.

- The Ducks are scheduled to travel to Buena Vista, Virginia to take on Southern Virginia University as well as Eastern Mennonite University Saturday in the Southern Virginia Tri-Match starting at 12:00 p.m.
- Stevens swept SVU on April 5, 2019 as well as sweeping EMU on Feb. 2, 2019 the last time these two teams played.
