Softball Finishes Second in DIII in GPA; Sets Program Record with 23 NFCA Scholar-Athletes

Ducks tied for the most Scholar-Athlete honors in DIII

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 14, 2021) – After making history on the field in the 2021 season, the Stevens Institute of Technology softball program did so once again, this time off the field as they finished with the second-best grade-point average in all of NCAA Division III and set a program record with 23 different student-athletes named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes, the NFCA announced Tuesday.

The Ducks have now finished inside the top-10 in GPA four consecutive times under head coach Emily Kaczmarek and have had at least 10 scholar-athletes in each of those seasons. Additionally, the 23 Scholar-Athlete selections were tied for the most among all NCAA DIII schools along with Millikin University and Aurora College.

"I am constantly impressed by our student-athlete's ability to maintain such an elite performance in the classroom as well as on the field," head coach Emily Kaczmarek said. "Iti s truly remarkable to finish second in the nation in team GPA. This speaks directly to the type of commitment our student-athletes have to the institution, our program and their passion to exceed expectations."

The Ducks finished the academic year with a 3.885 GPA as a team to rank first among all schools in the Middle Atlantic Conference and finish only behind Macalester University. The Ducks bested the likes of Johnson & Wales, MIT, Rhodes and Middlebury.

Julia Baber, Caitlin Blackburn, Melanie Blarr, Abigail Circelli, Siobhan Cottell, Amanda Delorme, Gina DeOliveira, Elise Fauske, Madison Gemma, Lexi Gregule, Jessica Guerrero, Meg Halloran, Victoria Kapp, Erin Kreis, Jessie Masur, Emily McGuire, Cara McMahon, Gab Poska, Samantha Schattin, Alex Schoellig, Olivia Warner and Carolyn Yahn all earned the distinction which honors student-athletes who finish the 2020-21 academic year with at least a 3.5 GPA.

NCAA Division III led the way with 2,375 student-athletes earning a 3.5 honor followed but Division I and Division II followed with 1,982 and 1,727 honorees. High School weighted and High School unweighted earned 832 and 679 distinctions. NAIA and two-year programs each amassed 643 and 594 recipients, respectively.
