Picture-Perfect Poskitt! Strike in 105th Minute Sends Men’s Soccer to MAC Freedom Final With 1-0 Victory Over Arcadia

Poskitt buries double-overtime winner to send Ducks to first MAC Freedom final

GLENSIDE, Pa. (November 3, 2021)  – Senior Jay Poskitt broke through in the 105th minute to send the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team over Arcadia University 1-0 in double overtime Wednesday evening in a MAC Freedom semifinal match at the Jean Lenox West Field.

With time winding down and the teams destined for a shootout, an Arcadia yellow card gave the Ducks a chance to set up a set piece near midfield. Senior Adam Silva drove a service into the top-right corner of the 18. Arcadia headed out the service to briefly avoid danger, but the header fell to the feet of senior Gianni Falvo. Falvo attempted a shot that was blocked by a Knight defender, only for Poskitt to pounce on the loose ball. Poskitt made a move around a defender and fired a crossing strike into the left corner of the net to spark a wild celebration on the field. The marker was the first career game-winning goal for the Winchester, Massachusetts native, who has scored a pair of goals over his last three matches.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Ducks, who improved to 12-6-1 on the year. Stevens has won at least 11 matches in each of head coach Dale Jordan's six seasons at the helm. The fourth-seeded Ducks advance to their first MAC Freedom title game Saturday afternoon to take on third-seeded Misericordia, who earned a 1-0 victory over #2 King's earlier in the evening to reach the conference title match for the first time since 2016. Stevens improved to 1-1-1 in extra time this year, winning in overtime for the first time since Sept. 6, 2017. The Ducks will be playing for a conference title for the first time as a member of the MAC Freedom and will be in search of their first title since 2018. A #4 seed has not won a MAC Freedom title since 2011 when Misericordia defeated Eastern 1-0, although Lycoming College won a MAC Commonwealth crown as the fourth seed in 2013.

Poskitt was in a position to become a hero thanks to senior goalkeeper Aedan Boriotti, who thwarted an attempt from point-blank range with a spectacular sliding stop, just 64 seconds before Poskitt's winning tally. Boriotti finished with a pair of saves to earn his 10th win, and sixth clean sheet, of the season. The Sea Girt, New Jersey native has conceded just one goal over his last 461:33 minutes and lowered his goals-against average to 0.77.

Jake Varrato made seven saves for Arcadia, who dropped to 10-9. The Ducks moved to 2-1-1 all-time against Arcadia. Tonight's match marked the first meeting between the programs in Pennsylvania; each of the previous three matchups were at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
