HOBOKEN, N.J. (Nov. 5, 2021) – In the first home dual meet at the DeBaun Aquatic Center in 643 days, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team dropped a dual meet 164-95 decision against Drew University Friday.
The Ducks started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay and got victories in the 200-yard butterfly by sophomore
Heather Maclachlan and the 200-yard backstroke from first-year
Kai Wong as they dropped to 1-3 on the year.
Drew, meanwhile, remained perfect at 4-0 this season after winning 12 of the 14 races on the day.
Stevens finished in first or second in eight of the 14 events including both relay races and picked up multiple top-three finishes in three separate individual events.
How it Happened
- The 200-medley relay team started the day with a final time of 1:53.42 to grab gold by over a second and earn 11 team points.
- Sophomore Olivia Shusta was the Ducks' top finisher in the 1000-free as she produced a time of 11:50.94 to finish in second place.
- The 200-free was next and Stevens produced a 2-3 finish as sophomore Lauren Smith touched in second and Wong finished third with times of 2:05.89 and 2:06.38, respectively.
- The Ducks got a fourth-place finish in the 100-back by graduate student April Ullrich (1:06.43) and a third-place finish from first-year Sophie Patz (1:14.28) in the 100-breast.
- Maclachlan's win came next for Stevens as she produced a time of 2:12.30 in the 200-fly for her second individual victory of the season.
- Sophomore Keenan Yates swam back-to-back solid races as she finished third in the 50-free (25.83) and second in the 100-free (57.11).
- The most impressive race of the night for the Ducks came next as Wong and Patz went 1-2 with times of 2:16.12 and 2:16.44 in the 200-back.
- Senior Katelyn Chen finished fourth in the 200-breast as Stevens' top finisher with a time of 2:41.16.
- The 500-free saw Smith swim a final time of 5:39.27 to grab third place overall.
- Sophomore Jamielyn Juan took silver in the 100-fly after producing a time of 1:01.70 in the next race of the night.
- The final individual race of the night saw senior Audrey Fanning take third place with a time of 2:24.74 in the 200-IM.
- Stevens closed the night by touching the wall in 1:42.07 to finish in second place in the 200-free relay.
