Lucky Seven! Women’s Basketball tops Lycoming for Seventh Straight Win

Alberici records a game-high 16 points as Ducks record seventh straight win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (December 4, 2021)  – First-year Lucy Alberici came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team to a 68-35 victory over Lycoming College Saturday in a MAC Freedom matchup at Canavan Arena.

Senior Allie Moss had 13 points and five assists and two-time reigning MAC Freedom Player of the Week Jess Broad posted her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Ducks, who won their seventh straight to move to 7-1 on the year and to 2-0 in league play. The seven-game winning streak is the longest for the program since the Ducks reeled off seven in a row to reach the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Meghan Dufer had nine points to lead Lycoming, who dropped their second straight in falling to 1-7 on the year and to 0-1 in league play. The Warriors did not have a player reach double figures.

Alberici shot 7 for 10 from the field, including 2 for 3 from behind the arc, to score 16 points in just 18 minutes of action. She also snagged a career-high seven rebounds and handed out one assist.

As the Ducks were building an early double-digit lead, where the team stood out was on the defensive end. Stevens held Lycoming to single digits in each of the first three quarters. The Ducks forced Lycoming into making just 12 of its 55 attempts from the floor (21.8%). The Warriors made 2 of their 17 3-point attempts.

The Ducks jumped out in front early, amassing a 12-point advantage in the first quarter in a game where they never trailed. Conversely, Lycoming shot 2 for 12 in each of the first two quarters.

Stevens forced 24 turnovers, marking the seventh time in eight games that the Ducks forced at least 20. The Ducks scored 15 points off Lycoming turnovers. The Ducks committed only 12 turnovers, including just five in the second half. The disparity in turnovers helped the Ducks get into the open floor, outscoring the Warriors 13-0 on the fast break.

Pivotal Point
  • Stevens went on a 6-0 run to open the contest, with Moss sinking a pair of jumpers and Broad scoring on a fast-break layup. The early run propelled the Ducks to the wire-to-wire victory.

  • Stevens won the battle of the boards 47-44, including a 15-13 edge in offensive rebounds.

From the Sidelines - Head Coach Megan Haughey
  • "I thought we received a lot of energy and fight from our bench today. Lucy was a force on the boards and Amber came in and had some nice defensive stops."
