Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 17, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team scored early and often en route to a 23-1 victory over Delaware Valley University Wednesday afternoon in a MAC Freedom matchup at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Junior
Camryn Rogers netted a career-high seven goals and fifth-year
Kyra Bednarski finished with five goals and six assists for the Ducks, who saw eight different student-athletes find the scoresheet to even the team's overall record at 1-1. The Ducks, who built a 15-1 halftime lead, picked up their first-ever MAC Freedom win in improving to 1-0 in league play; spring sports were shut down in 2020 prior to conference play commencing. The victory improved the program's all-time mark on St. Patrick's Day to a perfect 4-0.

Fifth-year
Emily Shanklin had four goals and two assists, while sophomore
Maris Daly had a career day with a goal and three helpers. The Ducks' 23 goals were the most by the team since scoring 23 against Houghton College on Apr. 28, 2018 in Empire 8 Conference play, falling just shy of the program record (26) set against Rosemont College in 2002. Sophomore
Julieann Murphy had two goals and an assist and classmate
Zoe Cook scored her first two goals in a Stevens uniform. Juniors
Natalie Fitzpatrick and
Gale Bennett each netted a goal to round out the Ducks' scoring efforts. In addition, first-years
Sierra Doss and
Clare Fitzgerald made their collegiate debuts, while junior

"I am really happy with the way we played today," said head coach
Karen Shaddock. "It was great to get a win on our field after over a year. It felt good! Every single player worked extremely hard and made a difference today. It was a full team effort. We had a lot of really great moments that we are going to continue to build on."
Today's victory marked somewhat of a return to the Middle Atlantic Conference for Shaddock, who won nine games in the conference over two seasons with Lycoming College, between 2016 and 2017, albeit on the MAC Commonwealth side of the league.
"Our offensive unit showed a glimpse of our potential and we are eager to keep building all of our threats," Shaddock said. "It was great to see all the different connections; we made a lot of adjustments since last week and looked like a whole new attack."
Senior
Peyton Taylor started and earned her first win of the season, making one save over 37 minutes of action. Sophomore
Kate Killian relieved Taylor in the second half to make her season debut, stopping one shot over 23 minutes. Rebecca Kingsley made four saves in defeat for Delaware Valley.
Zoe Cook won the opening draw control for the Ducks, who quickly jumped in front on Bednarski's first goal of the day just 50 seconds into the first half. The marker extended the Syracuse, New York native's goal-scoring streak to 42. For her career, Bednarski has totaled 330 points, and is the second-highest career total among all active NCAA student-athletes, regardless of division. She currently ranks third all-time in program history in points and needs to average just under six points per game the rest of the season to become the program's all-time leading scorer.
Cook corralled the ensuing draw control to begin the next possession and ended it 33 seconds later, taking a Bednarski feed to beat Kingsley to give the Ducks a two goal lead. Stevens would net four goals over the next 5:47 to take a 6-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest.
Shanklin would complete her 13th career hat trick and goals from Murphy and Rogers helped the Ducks reach a 10-goal margin just past the halfway point of the opening stanza. Butler netted her fourth goal of the season to put Delaware Valley on the board but the Ducks answered relatively quickly with Rogers completing her first hat trick as a Duck on the next possession. Bednarski and Rogers would alternate the next four goals to send the home team into the intermission with a commanding 15-1 lead.
Daly opened the second-half scoring with her first collegiate goal and then collected her first career assist a few plays later, feeding Cook for her second tally of the game. Bennett connected on her first goal of the season three minutes later, with goals from Bednarski, Fitzpatick, Shanklin and Rogers providing the final margin of victory.
Stevens fired off 38 shots on the afternoon, with 27 registering on goal. Bednarski fired off a game-high 10 shots with seven registered on-net. All totaled, 10 Ducks took at least one shot on the day, with eight different student-athletes attempting at least two. Butler and Gabrielle Borst each took shots to pace Delaware Valley.

Emily Leiby each had one. Amanda McKeegan had three draw controls to top the Aggies.
Stevens had a very successful afternoon clearing the ball, finding success on 15 of its 16 attempts, including a first 9 for 9 in the first half. The Ducks were able to hold Delaware Valley to 4 for 8 on its clear attempts.
Led by Rogers, who was a perfect 3 for 3, Stevens converted five of its seven free-position shots. Shanklin and Fitzpatrick each converted their only eight-meter attempt, to account for the Ducks' free-position goals. McKeegan was wide on the Aggies' lone free-position attempt of the game.
