Stevens Athletics Announces Updated Spectator Policy

4/6/2021 9:00:00 AM

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 6, 2021) – Following the Middle Atlantic Conference's decision to allow member institutions to make their own decisions regarding fan attendance, the Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics announced Tuesday the guidelines and protocols for fan attendance for outdoor home athletic events for the remainder of the Spring 2021 semester.

Effective Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Stevens Athletics will begin welcoming a limited number of spectators at outdoor home varsity athletic competitions. Visitors will not be permitted at any indoor sporting venues.

Each competing Stevens student-athlete and coach will be allowed no more than two guests per home contest for outdoor events only. If a student-athlete or coach does not have any guests, their allotment cannot be transferred to another member of the team or to any other individual.

Governor Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Health recently issued new COVID-19 travel guidance that follows updated travel recommendations released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). People who are fully vaccinated with an FDA-authorized vaccine and persons who clinically recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months who are traveling domestically within the United States do not need to be tested for COVID-19 before or after travel to New Jersey and do not need to self-quarantine upon return.

In addition, certain categories of visitors whose travel is essential may visit New Jersey for less than 24 hours without quarantining or testing. Please review state travel guidelines as you consider your plans.

Those who have not been fully vaccinated and do not meet requirements for an exemption should continue to quarantine for seven days and test 3-5 days after their return to New Jersey if they have traveled outside the immediate region (New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware).

State travel guidelines, including information for domestic and international travel for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, are available online. Please check this page before making any travel arrangements as this information may change.

In light of these new guidelines for the state of New Jersey, all spectators from states other than New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware, must submit proof of full vaccination upon check-in along with valid photo ID. You are considered fully vaccinated if:
  • It has been more than two weeks since you received your second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine;
  • It has been more than two weeks since your received your first and only dose of the Janssen/Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Unfortunately, at this time, Stevens cannot allow spectators from visiting institutions at any indoor or outdoor sporting events. Also, there will be no general admission, including walk-ups, to any home athletic event.

Guests will be required to pre-register to attend home athletic events by clicking here. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the start time of the home event the guest is planning to attend. Changes or late registrations will not be allowed under any circumstance after the deadline for each event. Upon arrival to Stevens, guests should proceed to the designated check-in area for your event. A valid photo ID will need to be presented to the Event Staff and subsequent instructions will be given as to where guests may sit or stand during the event. Guests may begin checking in at the venue 45 minutes prior to the contest's scheduled start time and are not permitted to enter any venue before the designated time.

All guests must wear face coverings that always cover the individual's nose and mouth fully during the duration of your visit, even though the event is outdoors, and you are complying with all social distancing rules. This includes when entering and exiting all competition venues. Guests not in the same party must always maintain at least six feet of physical distance from other parties. Members of the same household may remain together.

Guests should note that pre- or post-game gatherings or tailgates are not permitted under any circumstances and guests may not bring any food items into the athletic facility, but water and other non-alcoholic drinks are permissible. All guests must depart campus immediately upon the conclusion of the athletic contest. Interaction with the student-athletes unfortunately cannot be permitted at any time.

A full list of guidelines and protocols can be found here.

Prospective guests should please take note that all athletic events are subject to change or cancellation. The Institution and the Department of Athletics cannot guarantee that scheduled contests will always take place or shift to another date or time. Stevens will continue to monitor the ever-changing COVID-19 environment and this spectator policy is subject to change at any time. Guests must comply with all instructions from Stevens Athletics Event Staff and/or Campus Police.
