NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (August 9, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team was named an Academic Merit Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Monday after posting the highest team grade-point average in the 2020-21 academic year. It is believed to be the first time Stevens has earned the organization's top academic honor.
"This is an amazing honor!" said head coach
Karen Shaddock. "I am totally blown away with our student-athletes. They work incredibly hard on the field, but most importantly, in the classroom. I am so proud to coach this amazing group!"
Stevens posted a 3.878 team GPA during the 2020-21 academic year to top the 152 eligible Division III institutions. Joining Stevens in earning the prestigious distinction were Stanford University (Division 1), West Chester University (Division II) and Asbury University (NAIA).
The IWLCA bestows the Academic Merit Squad distinction to the team in each division with the highest team GPA for the preceding academic year. Each of the winning teams were previously named as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.
