HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 18, 2021) – Talal Said broke through in the seventh minute as No. 14 New York University defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team 2-0 Saturday in a non-conference fixture played at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Sean Masur had an opportunity to break through in the fifth minute, but his shot from point-blank range was deflected away from danger by Luca Mancuso. Mancuso finished with seven saves, including consecutive saves at the start of the second half to post his fourth clean sheet of the season.
Senior
Aedan Boriotti made a pair of saves for the Ducks, who dropped to 3-2-1 on the year. With the victory, the 14th-ranked Violets moved to 5-0. NYU has won the last two meetings between the teams, although the Ducks still hold a 5-4-3 advantage in the all-time series.
As the teams were battling for early control, senior
Adam Silva sent a ball towards the box. NYU's Joss Cohen tried to head the ball out of danger, only for Masur to receive the ball in an extremely dangerous area. The Bridgewater, New Jersey native tried to send a ball back across to the six-yard box into the right corner, only for Mancuso to make a save.
Less than two minutes later, Said broke through, neatly tucking in a cross from Alex Rovirosa-Illa into the right side of the net. NYU would add an insurance goal in the 52nd minute, as Oliver Kleban headed in a cross to give the Violets a two-goal advantage.

From the Sidelines - Head Coach Dale Jordan
- "Tough lesson we learned tonight. We were punished for two mistakes. Credit to NYU - they are a top team who gave us a lot of problems tonight. If we were a little more clinical, we could have made things interesting. We will look to rebound against TCNJ on Wednesday.
