ONEONTA, N.Y. (January 29, 2022)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team compiled 10 first-place finishes in defeating Hartwick College 159-85 Saturday in a non-conference dual meet at Moyer Pool.

First-year Sophie Patz was one of five Ducks to collect first- and second-place finishes for the Ducks, who closed out the regular season with a 2-5 record. The Ducks' 159-point performance marked not only a season high in points, but was the most for the team since totaling 170 points in a dual win over the Hawks on Jan. 30, 2016.

Joelle Ocheltree and Abby Miller had two race victories to lead Hartwick, who fell to 4-5.

In addition to the Ducks' 10 race wins, the team also picked up eight second-place finishes and six third-place times in posting a decisive victory over the Hawks, which moved Stevens to 9-2 all-time against Hartwick and snapped Hartwick's two-meet winning streak in the series.

"The women swam great and had a lot of in-season bests," said head coach Adam Schneider. "We had some women doing secondary events, which I think was a nice palate cleanser for us as our previous weekend of racing included two or three swims in our main events."

"Both of our teams are looking their strongest right now, which is exactly where we want to be this time of year," the first-year head coach added.

Stevens picked up victories in the 200-yard medley relay, the 100-yard backstroke, the 100-yard breaststroke, the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-yard individual medley and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Of the Ducks' 10 race wins, two (the 50 Free and the 100 Fly) came with Stevens sweeps of the top-three times.

Patz and sophomore Lauren Smith joined sophomore Gillian Reinhardt, first-year Kai Wong and senior Madie DeJong in collecting first- and second-place finishes to lead the Ducks. Senior Katelyn Chen had a first- and third-place finish, while first-year Claire Hannan and senior Audrey Fanning added one race victory each to round out the Ducks' winners. First-year Melissa Misurelli had a second- and third-place finish, while first-years Olivia Shusta, Rihanna Gilbertson, Marie Canencia and Julia Munger each had one third-place finish to round out the Ducks' place-winners.

The day kicked off the 200 medley relay, where Wong, Fanning, Reinhardt and Yates picked up a two-and-a-half second victory with a time of 1:54.88. Ocheltree picked up her first victory of the meet for Hartwick by winning the 1650-yard freestyle. Hartwick would make it two straight with a narrow win in the 200-yard freestyle.

The Ducks would win the next two races, with Hannan touching first in the 100 Back with a time of 1:03.23 in her first collegiate race in the distance, which ranks 12th in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Fanning (1:13.84) and Wong (1:14.92) would finish first and second in the 100 Breast. Hartwick would have the only entrant in the 200 Fly, but the Ducks would get back to their winning ways in the 50 Free, sweeping first, second and third, with Smith winning the race with a time of 26.45 seconds.

Stevens claimed victories in the next two events with Reinhardt topping the field in the 100 Free and Wong doing the same in the 200 Back. Wong's time of 2:15.31 ranks sixth in the conference. Chen would make it three straight wins, topping the field in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:39.64. Ocheltree picked up her second win of the day in the 500 Free before the Ducks won each of the last three races to close out the dual. Among the final three wins was Patz's time of 2:18.40 in the 200 IM, which is the sixth-fastest time in the MAC to date.

The dual closed out the Ducks' regular season.
