HOBOKEN, N.J. (Oct. 1, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology opened MAC Freedom play with an emphatic 5-1 win over King's College, Saturday afternoon. Five different players scored for the Ducks as the team snapped a five-game winless streak.
Stevens jumped out to a 1-0 lead just under 17 minutes into the game. Graduate student
Rachel Rouse buried a penalty kick for her second goal of the season to take the early lead. 17 minutes later, the Ducks struck again. This time it was junior
Amelia Rehrig who scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season to give Stevens a two-goal advantage. They took their 2-0 lead into the break and led as they headed into the final 45 minutes.
It did not take the Ducks long to add to their lead in the second half. Junior
Jana Mucci fired a shot from just outside the box and Stevens led 3-0. 54 seconds later, they scored again. Senior
Tia Saade scored her first goal of the season when she stole the ball from the Monarchs' defense and tucked the ball into the top left corner for a four-goal lead. First-year
Sarah Wnorowski scored the final goal of the gave for the Ducks and King's found the back of the net with just under six minutes remaining to make the score 5-1.
Stevens improved to 2-5-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win and King's fell to 6-2-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens led in shots by a total of 21-9 and held King's to just two shots on goal.
- Junior Dana Perry, first-year Kendra Donley and sophomore Zoe Hindman all saw action in net.
- Five goals is the most the Ducks have scored in a game since 2018.
