Field Hockey Defeats FDU-Florham on the Road

Emily Franco led the way for the Ducks with six saves

MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 12, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team earned a 2-1 road victory over FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom matchup on Wednesday night. Junior Dani Hessels tallied the game winning goal for the Ducks in the second quarter.

The first quarter was a feeling out period for both sides as they each looked to gain an advantage. FDU-Florham took two shots in the first 15 minutes and the Ducks took one. Fifth-year goalkeeper Emily Franco made one saves and the two teams remained knotted 0-0 headed into the second.

Fireworks began to fly in the second and three goals were scored. Stevens broke through five minutes into the quarter to take the early lead. Sophomore Makenna Quigley found the back of the net and was assisted junior Julia Zatyko. The Devils tied the game with under two minutes remaining in the half, but their lead did not last long. Just 28 seconds later, Hessels scored on an unassisted effort and the Ducks took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was similar to the first. Both teams were tied in shots with two and penalty corners with one and each goalie made one save. Stevens was able to take their 2-1 advantage into the fourth and final quarter. The Ducks were able to put the game away in the final 15 minutes. They held FDU-Florham to no shots and earned three penalty corners to the Devils' zero to close out the game and get the victory.
