Women's Soccer Drops a Close One to No. 2 Misericordia

The Ducks fell by a score of 3-2 at home

HOBOKEN, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team fell to No. 2 Misericordia University by a score of 3-2 in a MAC Freedom matchup, Saturday afternoon. Junior Elsa Bley and graduate student Brynn Budka scored for the Ducks.

The game got off the ground quickly with each side scoring within the first three minutes of action. Graduate student Kate Field scored the opening goal for the Cougars in the second minute, but Stevens responded quickly. Just 30 seconds later, Bley received a pass from first-year Sarah Wnorowski at the top of the box and just squeezed it past the goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1. It was a stalemate for the rest of the half and the two foes remained tied at one goal apiece headed into the break.

The Ducks did not wait long to make their presence felt in the second half. Budka elevated in the box and got her head on a corner kick from junior Jana Mucci in the 50th minute. It was her first goal of the season and it gave Stevens a 2-1 lead. The Ducks were able to hold off the Misericordia attack for the next 15 minutes, but the Cougars broke through in the 66th minute. Junior Emma Sweitzer tied the game at 2-2. Eight minutes later, Sweitzer struck again to give pull ahead of Stevens. The Ducks continued to push and Bley had an opportunity with two minutes remaining, but the shot was blocked and Stevens fell 3-2.

The Ducks fell to 6-7-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the loss. Misericordia improved to 14-0-1 and 6-0 in conference action.
