BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 23, 2022)  – Junior Alana Schmitt finished with a team-high 10 victories to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team Sunday at the Sharktank Challenge, hosted by Long Island University at the Steinberg Wellness Center.

Although the Ducks fell to Wellesley College (17-10), Drew University (14-13), New Jersey Institute of Technology (18-9), Wagner College (16-11) and LIU (18-9), the sabreists scored victories over Wellesley (5-4), Drew (6-3) and NJIT (5-4). The epee squad also topped LIU 5-4 to round out the weapon victories.

Stevens has alternated wins and losses with Wellesley over the last six meetings, while NJIT has won the last four meetings. Drew's one-point victory, which came courtesy of a 5-4 decision at foil, snapped the Ducks' 21-match winning streak in the all-time series, while Wagner's win snapped the Ducks' run of wins over the Seahawks at nine.

Individually, Schmitt went 2-1 against Wellesley, 2-1 against LIU, a perfect 3-0 against Drew, 1-2 against NJIT and 2-1 versus Wagner to account for her 10 wins. The Brooklyn, New York native went 10-5 on the day to bring her career record to 81-35.

Sophomore Arianna Daringa posted nine wins at sabre and senior Claire McNeill had nine at epee to tie for second on the team.
