WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated MAC Freedom opponent King's College by a score of 3-1 on the road, Wednesday night.
The game ramped up quickly and four goals were scored in the first 10 minutes of action. The Ducks broke through exactly three minutes into the game with a goal from sophomore
Sarah Korczukowski and never look back after that. They doubled their lead just two minutes later when sophomore
Makenna Quigley scored and then three minutes after that junior
Dani Hessels scored her fifth of the season and the score was 3-0 in the blink of an eye. The Monarchs were able to cut into the 38 seconds after that and the score was 3-1 headed into halftime after a scoreless second quarter of action.
The third quarter was scoreless and fifth-year goalkeeper
Emily Franco came up big for Stevens with five saves as King's applied pressure. The Monarchs led the way in shots by a total of 8 to 4 in the quarter and in penalty corners by a total of 6 to 4, but the Ducks still held the 3-1 lead headed into the final 15 minutes.
After two straight scoreless quarters, Stevens finally broke through to extend their lead in the fourth. Senior
Lynda Farinella scored on a penalty stroke for her sixth goal of the season to make the score 4-1. The Ducks were able to close out the game after that and secured the 4-1 win in their final conference game of the season.
Stevens improved to 11-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the win and King's fell to 6-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
