Field Hockey Tripped Up by Keystone at Home

The Ducks fell by a score of 2-1 in the non-conference matchup

HOBOKEN, N.J. (Oct. 5, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell to Keystone College by a score of 2-1 at home, Wednesday night. Sophomore Sarah Korczukowski scored the team's lone goal in the non-conference loss.

The two sides felt each other out in the opening quarter. There were not shots from either side and no penalty corners from either side through 15 minutes of play and the score was 0-0 at the first break. In the second quarter, Keystone was able to find some footing. They knocked in a deflection to take a 1-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the half and then three minutes later they scored again to double their lead. The Ducks struggled on offense in the first 30 minutes and trailed 2-0 at the half.

Stevens began to ramp up the pressure in the second half. They outshot Keystone 4-2 in the third quarter and held the Giants to zero penalty corners while earning five of their own. Despite the increased offensive output, the Ducks still trailed 2-0 headed into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter Stevens was finally able to break through the Keystone defense. With just three and a half minutes remaining, the Ducks scored to cut the lead to one goal. Stevens earned a penalty corner and after putting the ball into play, junior Paulina Georgoutsos fed the ball to Korczukowski who put it in the back of the net. Stevens continued the pressure and earned two more penalty corners in the final two minutes of action but were unable to find a goal and fell by a score of 2-1.

The Ducks fell to 6-6 on the season with the loss and Keystone improved to 6-5 on the year.
