HOBOKEN, N.J. (Nov. 3, 2022) – The top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated No. 4 FDU-Florham by a score of 3-0 at home in the MAC Freedom Semifinals, Thursday night. Senior
Michael Gomez led the way with a goal and an assist to help the Ducks advance to the conference title game.
Stevens were in control throughout the game and set the tone midway through the first half with the game's first goal. Senior
Bruno Andino received a through ball in the box from Gomez and slotted it past the Devils' keeper to make the score 1-0 in the 25th minute. The Ducks were then able to add some insurance with less than two minutes remaining in the half. The ball bounced through a crowd in the box and senior
Fritz Kabeiseman put home a rebound to make the score 2-0 headed into halftime.
The Ducks slowed their pace in the second half but continued to control the action. They outshot FDU 8 to 3 in the final 45 minutes and Gomez added the third and final goal in the 61st minute. He dribbled through the Devils' back line and was able to fire one past the keeper in a one-on-one opportunity. It was the first goal of Gomez' career and it put the game on ice for Stevens. The Ducks emptied their bench in the final minutes of the game and secured the 3-0 victory.
Stevens improved to 15-0-2 with the win and advanced to the MAC Freedom Championship game. FDU-Florham ended their season with a 9-5-5 record.
