Danielle Cornetta added 11 as four Ducks hit double figures.
Claire Hinds had nine points and Jenna Lacey pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for George Fox, who fell to 4-7. The Bruins have dropped three straight. Friday's contest marked the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Although Stevens never trailed, it was a sharp-shooting third quarter that proved to be the difference in the game. The Ducks outscored the Bruins 22-12 in the decisive frame, making 9 of their 14 attempts from the floor, including four of six from long range. Castro and Porrett were each perfect from the floor in the third, with both of Castro's baskets coming from behind the arc.
While the Ducks were heating up from the floor in the second half, they certainly also turned up the defensive intensity, forcing George Fox into making just seven of its 29 attempts from the floor. The Bruins also committed 11 second-half turnovers, while the Ducks made just 10 in the game.
For the game, the Ducks finished 28 for 59 (47.5%) for the team's second-best shooting percentage of the season and the Ducks' nine 3-pointers marked a season-high. Interestingly, despite a 27-point victory, the Ducks' longest scoring run was an 8-0 run in the second quarter. After allowing 15 points to the Bruins in the opening period, Stevens held George Fox under that number in each of the remaining quarters in securing the victory.
Pivotal Point
- Jaela Eggers converted a layup to cut the Ducks' lead to five with just over seven minutes left in the second quarter, but was unable to complete a three-point play after being fouled on the shot.
- Graduate student Jess Broad came down the floor and hit a long jumper to spark an 8-0 run.
- Broad hit her second straight jumper to push the lead to nine and four free throws pushed the margin back to double figures.
