WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (March 11, 2022) – Junior
Laura Mathews of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's indoor track & field team broke her own school in the 60-meter hurdles Friday at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Championships,
Seeded ninth in the preliminary race after posting a time of 8.79 seconds set at February's Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, Mathews completed the race in 8.73 seconds to again set both a new school and conference record in the event.
Mathews tied with Ramapo's Delilah Cruz, just 15-hundredths-of-a-second off the pace. University of Wisconsin-Osh Kosh's Riley Kindt finished with the fastest preliminary time, completing the race in 8.58 seconds.
By placing in the top-8, Mathews has guaranteed her first career All-America honor, so long as she finishes Saturday's championship. Mathews is the second hurdler in program history and the first in 10 years.
