MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 13, 2022) – Graduate student Ryan Kaplis scored twice, but No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team fell to No. 14 Wesleyan University 22-5 Sunday in a non-conference matchup at Citrin Field.

Matt Gill led the Wesleyan offense with four goals and 10 assists. Jake Sexton, Justin Hazard and Spencer Robbins each had five points each for the Cardinals who improved to 3-0. The matchup, which was moved back a day due to inclement weather, was believed to be the first meeting between the teams.

Quinton Smith took over down the stretch, but did not record a save. Colin Hanley made 10 saves to earn the victory for Wesleyan. Noah Lin played the final four-plus minutes, but did not register a save.
The Cardinals got on the board first in this one as Sexton found the back of the net just 88 seconds into the contest. The lead was extended to 2-0 only 32 seconds later when Gill and Hayden Leachman connected on Gil's first goal of the day. The Ducks responded quickly just 24 seconds when Caplis netted his first of the day.
Wesleyan took control scoring six unanswered goals to close out the first quarter. Grippo scored on the man-advantage to begin the second quarter. However, scored twice late in the period to open an eight-goal lead. Caplis netted his second of the day with 23 seconds left in the frame.
Wesleyan came out hot in the second half and ran off seven unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. Spiegel scored his unassisted goal in the opening minute of the final quarter and Cronk netted the first goal of his career with 21 seconds remaining in the contest to provide the final margin.
Wesleyan finished with a 60-33 edge in shots. Of the Ducks' 33, 15 were on goal, while Wesleyan registered 30. Caplis led Stevens with seven shots, of which four were on goal. Sophomore

Stevens went 1 for 9 on extra-man opportunities, while Wesleyan found success at a perfect 2 for 2 rate.
Stevens was 14 for 26 on its clearing attempts, while the Cardinals finished with an impressive 21 of 22.
