AMBLER, PA (April 10, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team was swept on the road in a MAC Freedom against No. 17 Arcadia on Sunday, April 10. The Ducks fell 7-2 in the first game of the day and 5-4 in a second game that went to extra innings.

Senior
Brett Mendez led the team with two hits in the first game and senior
Ryan Finegan had the team's lone RBI on a sixth inning singles. Junior
Leo Bristow (0-1) got the start and picked up his first loss of the season. Finegan added two RBI in the second game and graduate student connected for three hits to lead the Ducks. Junior
Anthony Pron (5-3) was credited with the loss. Stevens fell to 20-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play with the losses.
"Tough losses on the road. I thought we played well enough to win both games. We didn't catch many breaks at all and balls just weren't dropping for us. But give credit to Arcadia for getting the job done on both ends of the doubleheader. We hope to have a chance to see them again in the postseason."

Sophomore Hunter Curley led Arcadia with three RBI across both games and junior Justin Massielo with a combined four hits across both contests and had two RBI. The Knights improved to 24-4 overall and 11-1 in conference play with the wins.

The first game of the day was scoreless through two innings until the Arcadia bats woke up. They scored two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 advantage midway through.

The Ducks began to cut into the lead in the top of the fifth. Mendez scored on a wild pitch and then later in the sixth, graduate student
Hunter Silvernail scored on an RBI single from Finegan to make the score 5-2. The Knights scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to five and took the 7-2 victory in seven innings.

Junior
Ryan Shea got the start in the second half of the day. Arcadia scored on a throwing error in the first to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Ducks bounced back in the second. Finegan blasted a two RBI double and Stevens led 2-1.

The game turned in the fourth inning. Shea gave up three runs as the Knights scored on an RBI double, a wild pitch and a balk. With three innings left, Stevens trailed 4-2, but the Ducks continued to chip away. Junior
Ben Tobio picked up an RBI single in the fifth and senior
Ryan Wall hit an RBI triple in the seventh to tie the game 4-4 and send it to extras.

Stevens went scoreless in the top of the eighth and then Pron gave up an RBI single in second half of the inning to junior Ryan Smolen and the Knights took the 5-4 win.

Up Next: Stevens will host New Jersey City University at home on Tuesday, April 12, in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on the Dobbelaar Baseball Field.
