Softball Earns a Sweep over William Paterson

The Ducks earn their second-straight road sweep with 12-3 and 10-7 victories

WAYNE, N.J. (April 28, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team --- on the road, Thursday, April 28. They took game one by a score of 12-3 and game two by a score of 10-7.
 
Sophomore Jessica Guerrero led Stevens with four hits over both games and she also had an RBI. First-year Rachael Prescott and sophomore Carolyn Yahn led the Ducks with three RBI each. Stevens improved to 14-16 overall with the sweep.
 
In game one, the Ducks led 4-2 through three innings. Each side scored a run in the first and then in the third sophomore Carolyn Yahn drove in two runs on a single to right field and first-year Racheal Prescott brought in Yahn on a single. William Paterson added a run in the bottom of the inning and the score was 4-2.
 
Stevens' lead ballooned in the fourth and fifth innings. Guerrero started off the inning with an RBI double and then the Ducks added three more runs to make the score 8-2 and then they added three more in the fifth. Senior Lexi Gregule drove in a run on an RBI double and then Stevens scored three runs on errors to get the 12-3 win in five innings.
 
Junior Erin Kreis (6-8) pitched a complete game and struck out two batters to get the win from the circle. First-year Jaelynn Miller (6-9) was credited with the loss for the Pioneers.
 
Game two was a back and forth affair. The Ducks fell behind 3-0 after one inning in game two but came roaring back with four runs in the second. Junior Olivia Warner started off the inning with a two RBI single and then senior Emily McGuire and first-year Emma Ruiz also drove in runs to make the score 4-3.
 
William Paterson took back their lead in the second with three more runs to take a 6-4 lead and the Stevens answered again with another four-run inning in the third to take back the lead. Warner and McGuire each added another RBI to make the score 8-6. The Ducks added one more in the fourth and another in the fifth and the final was 10-7.
 
First-year Megan Curtis (1-1) picked up her first win of the season and junior Gabriella Brancaccio (0-1) received the loss. The Pioneers fell to 14-21 overall with the losses.
 
Up Next: Stevens closes out the regular season at home against MAC Freedom opponent Arcadia on Saturday, April 30, at Weehawken Waterfront Park. Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
