Men's Tennis Sweeps FDU-Florham, Earn Second-Straight Conference Win

12 Ducks earn a victory as Stevens moves to 2-0 in league play

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 5, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis earned its second straight conference sweep with a 9-0 victory over FDU-Florham Tuesday in a MAC Freedom matchup at the Stevens Tennis Courts.

The decisive victory marked the second straight sweep for the Ducks, who moved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in league play. FDU-Florham dropped to 3-2 on the year and to 0-1 in conference play. The victory snapped the Devils' three-match winning streak. Stevens has won the last seven meetings between the teams.

"Today was a good conference win for our guys. FDU is a much-improved team from last year and they forced us to dig deeper to pull out some wins," said head coach Steve Gachko. "I was especially proud of Sebastian stepping up today at the top singles spot and fighting back from a set down to pull out the win over a talented graduate transfer student."

The Ducks claimed all three doubles matches and each of the six singles flights. Stevens has won 13 straight regular-season league matches. Both first-year Sebastian Wroe (3-6, 6-3, 10-7) and senior Brian Li (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) pulled out tough, three-set victories and first and sixth singles, respectively.

Graduate student Mark Pabalan and sophomore Vivek Hiranararyan earned an 8-2 win at third doubles. Senior Mark Feliu and first-year Troy Zhang won 8-3 at second doubles and graduate student Keegan Morris and first-year Olof Persson won 8-6 at first doubles to complete the sweep and give the Ducks an early 3-0 lead.

Stevens followed their strong doubles performance with wins in all six matches to secure the victory. Wroe improved to 8-3 on the season with his come-from-behind win on line one and Li improved to a perfect 5-0 with his three-set victory. First-year Matt Luzzi, junior Philip Szkudlarski, sophomore Andrew He and senior Eloi Pradier all posted striaght-set victories in singles competition.

Up Next: The Ducks will host NYU in a non-conference matchup at home on Friday, April 8. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on the Stevens Tennis Courts. It will be Alumni Day for the men's tennis program. Stevens has won four of the last five meetings between the teams.
