Baseball Concludes Season with NCAA Regional Loss to St. Joseph's-Long Island

The Ducks fell to the Golden Eagles by a score of 2-0

WINCHESTER, Va. (May 21, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell to St. Joseph's College-Long Island by a score of 2-0 in NCAA Regional action on Saturday, May 21. The loss eliminated the Ducks from NCAA play and concluded the 2022 campaign for Stevens.

Junior Ryan Shea (5-3) got the start on the mound for the Ducks and was credited with the loss. First-year Charles Aurandt (7-5) pitched eight innings for the Golden Eagles and secured the victory. Stevens finished the season with a 29-16 overall record and St. Joseph's improved to 24-13.

"Certainly not the result we were expecting. We just couldn't get the bats going today or yesterday. With that being said, the result doesn't diminish the historic season this team had. We did what only a few Stevens Baseball teams have done, tying a program record for wins on the way to the NCAA Tournament," said head coach Kristaps Aldins.

St. Joseph's took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. A sacrifice fly scored the runner on third to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage. After that, it was a stalemate between the two foes until St. Joe's struck again in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch. Shea and junior Anthony Pron combined to give up just four hits, but Stevens struggled to get the bats going. The Ducks registered just four hits of their own and were unable to get on the board, eventually falling by a score of 2-0.

"This group of seniors and grad students truly leave the program in a better place. We have an incredibly talented returning group for next year. The future is bright! Thank you to our Stevens administration. They step up time and time again to allow our student athletes to have the best experience possible. And to our baseball families and alumni, you guys are the best. GO DUCKS!" Aldins said.

The loss concluded an impressive 2022 campaign for Stevens in which they reached the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014, qualifying with an at large bid. The Ducks will look to build on their success next season.
