GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 27, 2022) – Doctoral student
Gina Dello Russo of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's track and field team was named Academic All-District, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
The honor is the fifth for Dello Russo, who becomes the first student-athlete in school history to earn the prestigious Academic All-District selection in five different academic years. Student-athletes are not eligible for the recognition until their sophomore year.
Dello Russo's accomplishments on the track more than speak for themselves. A 13-time All-American in a total of three different events, Dello Russo won her first National Championship one year ago, topping the field in the 400-meter dash, while breaking her own school record in the process. She is the program's first All-American in the long jump and is a 33-time conference champion after winning four events in her final conference meet to earn the Middle Atlantic Conference's Field Athlete of the Year award.
Working towards her doctorate in socio-technical systems, Dello Russo posted a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average as undergraduate, while then finishing with a 4.0 in her graduate coursework. After earning her bachelor's in engineering management, Dello Russo would complete her master's in mechanical engineering before entering Stevens' doctoral program. She also holds graduate certificates in Data Exploration and Visualization for Risk and Decision Making and Logistics and Supply Chain Analysis.
Stevens is located in Division III's Second District, which encompasses institutions from Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. Dello Russo is now eligible for Academic All-America recognition, which will be announced in June.
