Women's Volleyball Takes Down Denison in Five Sets

The Ducks are on a four-game winning streak, their longest of the season.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 13, 2023) – Junior Cleo Shannon had 12 kills and two blocks, while senior Liz Patterson recorded nine kills and 17 digs, as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Denison University 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-12, 16-25, 15-10) Friday night on the campus of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

The Ducks (11-6) find themselves on a four-match winning streak, which is their longest of the season. Stevens has also won two non-conference matches in a row. The Big Red (8-9) see their three-match winning streak come to a halt with the loss.

  • Denison got back on track in the second. They got off to a 5-1 start and never looked back. Stevens took the lead late for their first lead in the frame, going up 22-20, but would give up the final points to Denison, falling 25-23, as the Big Red scored the final four points.
  • After going down 6-4, the Ducks went on a 9-1 run to open up a big lead. Sophomore Vivian Lisboa had two kills on the run. Later up 19-11, Stevens rattled off six of the final seven points to take the set.
  • The Big Red came back in the fourth set to tie things up at two. With not much to separate the teams early on, Denison used a 5-0 run while already up three points to give themselves a big advantage. The Big Red would take the set 25-16.
  • It would come down to a pivotal fifth set. After Denison scored six of the first 11 points, Stevens went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by two aces from senior Bailey Axelrad, to help the Ducks take a 10-6 lead. The match ended with two errors from Denison as Stevens would take the final set 15-10.
