WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 17, 2023) - Graduate Rachel Rouse recorded her first career hat trick while five other Ducks scored as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team blew out King's 8-0 Tuesday night.
The Ducks (5-6-2, 3-1-0 MAC Freedom) have won three straight games. The eight goal win is their biggest margin of victory since November 12, 2016, when the Ducks defeated Colby Sawyer 8-0 in the NCAA Tournament. The eight goals is also the most the Ducks have scored since that same game. The hat trick scored by Rouse is the first by a Stevens player since October 12th of last season, when senior Amelia Rehrig accomplished it in a 7-3 win over Delaware Valley. King's (5-7-2, 1-2-1 MAC Freedom) has now lost two straight, being outscored 11-0 in those two games. King's has never beaten Stevens.
The Ducks wasted no time in this contest as they scored just under two minutes in as reigning MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week Rachel Rouse scored on an assist from first-year forward Luciana Rodrigues. The Ducks were awarded an own goal ten minutes later to double their advantage. In the 19th minute, Rehrig tallied her first of the game on an assist from senior Elsa Bley and graduate Louise Gottwald. Rouse then scored her second in the 23rd minute with graduate Caitlin Carroll providing the assist to extend the Stevens lead to four. Just over a minute later, Rouse completed her hat trick with first-year forward Luciana Rodrigues providing the helper as the Ducks led 5-0.
Stevens continued to put the pressure on King's in the second half. Graduate Tia Saade scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute to balloon the Stevens advantage to six. Sophomore Lauren Alley and junior Olivia Castro assisted the goal. Sophomore forward Sarah Wnorowski would join the party in the 69th minute, scoring on an assist from Castro. To cap off the scoring, first-year Diana Cavalieri scored her first career goal, assisted by Castro and Wnorowski in the 87th minute as the Ducks cruised to an 8-0 victory.
