Korczukowski’s Hat Trick Powers Field Hockey Over Delaware Valley 6-0

Ducks run winning streak to 11 after decisive win over DelVal

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (October 21, 2023) – Junior Sarah Korczukowski notched her first career hat trick as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated Delaware Valley University 6-0 Saturday in a MAC Freedom matchup at Robert A. Lipinski Stadium.

Graduate student Lynda Farinella extended her scoring streak to seven with a first-quarter goal as the Ducks won their 10th straight victory to improve to 13-2 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in the MAC Freedom. The Ducks set their program record in 2021 with an 11-game winning streak and can match that stretch with a victory over FDU-Florham Wednesday night in Hoboken. The victory also clinched a spot in the MAC Freedom tournament.

Alyssa Rudd made nine saves for Delaware Valley, who dropped to 5-9 on the year and to 2-3 in conference action. The Ducks' victory snapped the Aggies' two-game winning streak. Stevens has won all five meetings in the all-time series.

Sophomore Lily Wierzbicki earned her ninth win in the cage with a scoreless first half, while also lowering her goals-against average to a Division III-leading 0.24. Stevens Athletic Hall of Famer Ellyn Griggs holds the program single-season record with 0.81. First-year Maria Dante took over for Wierzbicki in the second half and made three saves.

The Ducks remain in control of their own postseason fate. The Ducks are tied with DeSales with an unblemished 5-0 record in conference play. The teams meet in the regular-season finale one week from today in Center Valley.

The Rundown
  • Korczukowski wasted little time getting Stevens on the board, scoring 3:29 in the opening quarter. The Hackettstown, New Jersey native would later score two goals less than a minute apart in the final quarter to complete the 13th hat trick in program history. Korczukowski is the 10th Duck to score three (or more) goals in a single game.
  • Following Korczukowski's game-opening goal, Farinella notched her 11th of the year 65 seconds later to double the Ducks' advantage. The South Plainfield, New Jersey native ranks third in the conference in goals.
  • The two-goal advantage held up as the Ducks didn't allow Delaware Valley to get comfortable in the offensive zone. The Ducks didn't concede a shot until the third quarter and the held the Aggies completely off the scoresheet again in the final period.
  • Sophomore Gabi Moroney netted her first goal of the year to send the teams into halftime with the Ducks holding a 3-0 lead. First-year Sophia Cozza found the back of the net in the third quarter before Korczukowski's two markers in the final quarter to produce the final margin of victory.

Top Performers
  • Junior Makenna Quigley and first-year Molly DiCampli each registered an assist. For DiCampli, it was her first collegiate point.
  • The Ducks earned nine penalty corners, while only allowing three (all in the third quarter).
  • Dante has not allowed a goal over her last three outings.
  • The Ducks have conceded just 11 goals and are holding conference opponents under a goal per game (.73).
  • The Ducks continue to rank among the nation's leaders in goals-against average.

For the Opponents
  • Ashley Birmingham recorded two of the Aggies' three shots. Kenzie Boyd had the other. All three shots registered on goal.
