Field Hockey Shuts Out Keystone for Fifth Straight Victory

Lynda Farinella scored the lone goal in the game.

LA PLUME, Pa. (October 4, 2023) - Graduate Lynda Farinella scored the lone goal of the evening as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated Keystone 1-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Ducks (8-2) find themselves on their longest winning streak of the season, now at five games. The wins have come against Drew, Eastern, Montclair State, Albright, and Keystone (6-3), who lost their first ever matchup to Stevens. With the win, Stevens has now improved to 3-2 on the road.

Stevens was the stronger team to start the game as first-year Sophia Cozza, Farinella, and junior Sarah Korczukowski each had shots in the first ten minutes either blocked or saved. Farinella found the breakthrough in the 11th minute on an assist from Cozza. The second quarter saw the Ducks record three shots but scored no goals. Stevens led 1-0 at the half.

The game became a little more even in the third quarter as Keystone was able to apply some pressure on the Ducks, forcing a save from sophomore Lily Wierzbicki late in the quarter to maintain the 1-0 lead. In the fourth quarter, Stevens maintained possession in the attacking half as they tallied four penalty corners and three shots. Despite the Ducks not scoring again, they would be able to shut out Keystone, earning their eighth win of the year.
