HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 1, 2023) - First-year Molly DiCampli scored her first career goal in overtime as the #1 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated #4 Arcadia 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the MAC Freedom semifinals.
The Ducks (16-2) continue their program-best winning streak, as they won their 13th straight game on Wednesday. With the win, Stevens will host the MAC Championship game against #2 DeSales on Saturday. Stevens beat DeSales 3-0 last Saturday. Arcadia finished the season 10-10.
The two teams exchanged chances in the first quarter. First it was Arcadia, who hit the post just three minutes in. The Ducks then had two shots on target but were unable to convert. Still 0-0 in the second, Stevens dominated play, but could not score as the score remained 0-0 at the half.
The third quarter was similar to the second quarter with the Ducks dominating the play. They could still not find a goal. In the fourth, junior Sarah Korczukowski and first-year Sophia Cozza each had shots stopped as regulation finished at 0-0. Overtime was exciting with end to end action for both teams. In the 65th minute, first-year Maria Dante made a save on a breakaway from Arcadia. Just two minutes later, DiCampli scored on a rebound on a shot from Cozza to seal the victory and help the Ducks reach the MAC Freedom Championship game.
