Women's Basketball Completes Successful West Coast Trip With 57-52 Win Over George Fox

The Ducks are now 3-0, which is their best start to a season since 2018-19.

NEWBERG, ORE. (November 12, 2023) - Sophomore Dorothy Loffredo scored a team-high 16 points and added a career-high 18 rebounds, while junior Lucy Alberici added 15 points, as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated George Fox 57-52 Sunday night.

The Ducks (3-0) have won their first three games of the season for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, when the Ducks also took three-straight to open the season. It was the season opener for George Fox, who fell to 0-1. Stevens is now 2-0 all-time against the Bruins after defeating them today and in last year's Stevens Women's Basketball Holiday Classic.

In a low scoring affair, George Fox led for the first two minutes before Alberici scored a fastbreak layup to put the Ducks up 7-6. It took another two minutes for her to find the bottom of the basket again, which put her team up three. Stevens would maintain their lead for the rest of the quarter as they led 15-12. Alberici continued to keep things rolling in the second, as she made a three for the Ducks while sophomore Leyla Castro made a jumper in the first few minutes to give the Ducks a five point advantage. The Bruins went on a run the rest of the quarter to take a 28-25 lead, but down the stretch, the Ducks regained their advantage. First-year Kay Decker made a jumper with 1:23 to go to cut the deficit down to one. Loffredo then scored a layup on the next Duck possession. As the buzzer sounded to end the half, Castro hit a step-back three to give Stevens a 32-28 advantage at the break.

The Bruins tied up at the score at 36 with 6:30 on the clock in the third, but on the very next possession, Loffredo drained a bucket from deep to re-establish the Duck lead. The two teams would continue to tussle as the lead only got as big as four points in the quarter for the Ducks. Castro made a jumper at the end of the quarter to give Stevens a 46-43 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Loffredo kicked off the scoring in the fourth, making a jumper at the 8:52 mark to give Stevens a five point advantage. Neither team would score again until 5:49, when Loffredo converted another bucket. The rest of the way, Stevens scored five of their final seven points from the free-throw line, along with another Loffredo bucket, to hold off George Fox and get their third-straight victory to open the season.
