Women's Volleyball Bows Out of NCAA Tournament to No. 1 Juniata

The Ducks finish the season with a 22-10 record.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (November 17, 2023) – Sophomore Vivian Lisboa tallied a team-high nine kills and added two blocks, but it wasn't enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team fell to No. 1 Juniata 3-0 (18-25, 11-25, 16-25) in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night on the campus of Juniata.

The Ducks finish the season with a 22-10 record. Stevens won in the previous round against Marymount, marking the second-straight season the Ducks  have won a NCAA Tournament game. In head coach Macon Frey's first season, the Ducks won the MAC Freedom Championship game over #2 Lebanon Valley last weekend, which secured their birth in the tournament. Juniata, the defending national champions, remain unbeaten on the season (31-0).

The Rundown

  • Stevens had a .019 hitting percentage, while Juniata hit .311 percent.
  • The Ducks jumped out to an early 5-3 lead over the Eagles, fueled by two kills from Shannon. Later with Stevens up 6-5, Juniata used a 9-0 run to take a commanding lead. Stevens tried to fight back, as Lisboa and senior Liz Patterson each tallied kills in the frame, but the Eagles would be too much as they took set one 25-18.
  • Juniata scored 10 of the first 15 points in the second frame, but the Ducks rattled off three-straight after that to get within two. Two came from Lisboa kills and another came from a Patterson kill. The Eagles then went on another big run, this time 11-1, to take full control in the set. Juniata would win 25-11 and take a 2-0 lead.
  • Despite being one of just five teams to take a set off of Juniata during the regular season, the Eagles held firm in the third set and completed the sweep. Stevens held tough though, splitting the first ten points and only trailing 8-7 after 15. The Ducks gave up yet another big run, this time 9-1, to Juniata which helped them take command in the final set. The Ducks rattled off six of the next seven to stay in the match, but Juniata matched that by scoring six of the final seven points to end the frame as they earned the sweep and moved on to the next round.
