MADISON, N.J. (November 4, 2023) – Junior Cleo Shannon totaled 25 kills and four blocks across two matches as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Drew 3-0 (25-12, 30-28, 25-23) and Rowan 3-1 (19-25, 25-12, 25-8, 25-7) Saturday on the campus of Drew.
The Ducks (19-9) finish the regular season with a 12-9 record in non-conference play after winning both matches today. Stevens now looks ahead to the postseason as they will be the #1 seed in the MAC Freedom tournament. They will host #4 Misericordia in the semifinal round.
The Rundown (Drew)
- Stevens had a .180 hitting percentage, while Drew hit .127 percent.
- The Ducks got out to a huge lead in the first set, leading 11-4 after 15 points. Shannon had three kills on the run, while seniors Madison Sappia and Bailey Axelrad each tallied an ace. Later up 18-11, Stevens closed the frame on a 7-1 run to win 25-12. Sophomore Vivian Lisboa had two kills in that stretch.
- After going down 8-4 in the second, the Ducks scored four unanswered, fueled by two Liz Patterson kills, to tie the game at eight. The two teams battled throughout the frame as nothing was able to separate them. It went past the 25 point threshold and with Drew up 28-27, Stevens scored the final three points to win the set. Sophomore Gabbi Roberts tallied a kill while senior Elle Maggio had an ace.
- With a 2-0 lead, Stevens found themselves trailing 8-6 in the third. The Ducks would end up rallying and would take a 14-12 lead over the Rangers. Later down 20-18, Drew scored four straight to take a slim lead. Down 23-22, Stevens again scored the final three points to win the set. Lisboa and Shannon each had kills to help close it out.
The Rundown (Rowan)
- Stevens earned the victory against Rowan with a .280 hitting percentage, while Rowan hit -.062 percent.
- Rowan were the ones who got off to a good start as they would end up winning the first set. The Ducks and the Profs each traded mini runs throughout the frame and the Profs were able to take the first 25-19.
- Down 1-0, Stevens accelerated past Rowan the rest of the way, not even allowing them to get a sniff of taking another set. Stevens opened the second frame on an 11-0 run, with senior Meg Dion having three kills and Roberts having two aces. Rowan would only get back to within eight. Maggio and Shannon closed the set with back-to-back kills as the Ducks won 25-12.
- Despite the Profs scoring first in the third set, the Ducks would end up taking an 11-2 lead. After Rowan rattled off five straight, Stevens scored 12 unanswered to take a massive 23-7 lead. Sophomore Paulina Miller had three aces on the run. The Ducks won 25-8.
- Stevens wrapped things up with a 25-7 win in set four. Stevens used a 15-0 run in the middle of the set to blow things open.

- Patterson had a double-double against Rowan, posting 10 kills and 16 digs.
- Senior Madison Sappia totaled 42 digs.
- Dion had six kills and three digs against Rowan.
- Lisboa totaled 13 kills and six blocks.
- First-year Molly Harris had 41 assists.
- Axelrad had two aces and 17 digs against Drew.

- Lauren Gaza (Drew) had five assists and 35 digs.
