HOBOKEN, N.J. (December 9, 2023) - Junior Lucy Alberici scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to Colby 74-51 Saturday afternoon inside Canavan Arena.
The Ducks (5-4) are now on a three-game losing streak. The loss also marks the Ducks' second-straight home defeat of the season, falling to 2-2 in Hoboken. Stevens is now 0-2 all-time against Colby. With the win, the Mules improved to 7-3 on the season.
Stevens started on a 10-4 run to earn an early six point advantage. Alberici and sophomore Leyla Castro each scored four points for the Ducks in the spell. The six point lead was the largest of the game for the home side. Alberici added another basket while sophomore Dorothy Loffredo scored one as well as the two teams were knotted at 15 at the end of the first quarter. The Mules scored the first four points of the second quarter before Castro drained another basket to keep the Ducks within two. Stevens would struggle to score and would not do so for three minutes when Loffredo made a basket to get Stevens within four. That jumper kicked off a personal 7-0 scoring streak for Stevens by Loffredo, but Colby kept answering as they held a 38-27 lead at the break.
Colby went on an 8-0 across the first 4:30 of the second half to extend their advantage. The Ducks finally ended their drought when Loffredo scored at the 5:22 mark. Stevens only scored three more field goals in the quarter as most of their points came from the line. Alberici, Loffredo, and first-year Kay Decker each tallied a field goal as Colby led by 18 after three quarters. Alberici scored the first five points for Stevens in the fourth quarter, but the Ducks still found themselves down 18. Down the stretch, Colby continued to apply pressure and would extend their lead, as the Mules would win by 23, which was the Ducks' largest home defeat of the season.
