HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 5, 2023) – Fifth-year
Camryn Rogers and senior
Zoe Cook each scored five goals and recorded two assists as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated John Carroll University 20-7 Sunday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Stevens led for all but 44 seconds in the game in improving to 4-0 and winning the first ever matchup between the teams.Â
Caylin Perryman and Kendall Gessner each scored twice for the Blue Streaks, who dropped to 0-4.

Julieann Murphy recorded one goal and four assists, while junior
Emily Leiby recorded a hat trick. Fifth-year

Stefanie Sellitto each tallied three points on the day as 11 different players had at least one point. Sophomore

Anna Velardi adding one goal each to round out the Ducks' offensive contributions.
Graduate student Lauren Carniff drew the start in the cage and made two saves in fifteen minutes of action, earning the win. The Ducks had four goalies see action in the game for the first time this season. Sophomore
Erica Strojny made five saves, while first-years
Emma Guzowski and
Felicity Heilferty each made their collegiate debuts. Guzowski made three saves. Josephine Lawler and Olivia Munding split the game for John Carroll and totaled five saves.
The Ducks put the pedal to the medal in the first quarter, scoring the first 10 goals of the game. Rogers got things started less than a minute into the game, scoring on an assist from senior
Maddie Schmidt after Sellitto stripped Lainey Donaldson. Murphy had a big impact in the opening quarter as well, scoring twice in the first five minutes and providing one assist. Cook scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season in the quarter, as well as creating a goal for Westerby. Leiby capped off the quarter, scoring with ten seconds left.
Down by ten, the Blue Streaks got on the board less than a minute into the second quarter, as Gessner had her first of the day. Stevens didn't let John Carroll get any momentum, however, as they would shut them down the remainder of the quarter. Cook completed her hat trick with 5:47 remaining to put the Ducks back up ten. Yang scored her second career goal while Westerby scored with a player advantage to wrap up the first half with the Ducks up 13-1.
Despite trailing at the break, it was John Carroll who gained momentum early in the third quarter, scoring two goals in the first four minutes to trim the deficit to ten. However, Rogers responded with three straight goals to put Stevens up 16-3, putting her total at five for the game. The Blue Streaks would score with 2:40 remaining in the frame, but the Ducks ended the period in a big way, with Leiby firing a shot to the left side of the goal with one second left to regain a 13-goal lead for the Ducks heading into the fourth.
Each team scored three goals in the fourth quarter as the Ducks stayed unblemished in the standings. Cook scored her fourth goal of the day with 12:42 remaining. After Mary Doherty scored for John Carroll, Stevens answered courtesy of Sellitto. The Blue Streaks would score twice more in the frame, but the Ducks would end up scoring the final goal of the afternoon as Cook would score another with under a minute remaining in the game.
The Ducks scored on three of their six free-position shots. Leiby and Velardi converted their eight-meter attempts in the first quarter, while Sellitto scored in the fourth. John Carroll scored on all four of its free-position shots.
Stevens finished with a 16-10 advantage on draw controls. Rogers paced the team with four and Sellitto had three. Westerby and first-year
Lindsay Esposito each had two. Olivia Gerlach had three to lead the Blue Streaks.
Stevens caused five of John Carroll's seven turnovers. Sellitto led the team with two. The Blue Streaks caused nine of the 13 Duck turnovers, with Emily Van Gorder leading the way with three.
Both teams were almost perfect on clears. The Ducks went 15 for 16 while the Blue Streaks went 9 for 11.
