GLENSIDE, Pa. (April 12, 2023) – Fifth-year Camryn Rogers and sophomore Rebecca Guerra each tallied seven points on the night as the No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated Arcadia 24-1 Wednesday night in a MAC Freedom matchup at the JLW Field.
The seven points were a career high for Guerra. She scored four goals and added three assists, which were also career bests. The Ducks improve to 11-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. Stevens also remains a perfect 6-0 in Hoboken this season. The Ducks have only allowed four goals across their last three games.
Arcadia (4-9, 1-3 MAC Freedom) were held to a season-low goal total, as they were only to put one in the back of the net. Their previous season-low was two, which happened twice in the campaign.
Senior Julieann Murphy added five points for the Ducks, scoring once and adding four assists. First-year Maddie Hogan recorded career highs in goals (2), assists (2), and points (4). Sophomore Emily Smart matched Murphy with a team-high four assists. Fellow classmate Alison Lax recorded a hat trick in the game. Senior Zoe Cook, along with first-years Stefanie Sellitto and Maggie Zarish-Yasunas, recorded two points on the evening. Fifth-year Morgan Westerby, senior Maddie Schmidt, junior Emily Leiby, sophomore Anna Velardi, and first-year Bella Mangano each tallied one point in the game.
Graduate student Lauren Cunniff drew the start in the cage and made one save in 30 minutes of action to earn her 11th win of the season. First-year Felicity Heilferty, sophomore Erica Strojny, and first-year Emma Guzowski all saw action in net. Strojny made one save.
Stevens jumped on the board at the 12:53 mark as Sellitto slotted the ball into the net on an assist from Westerby. Zoe Cook doubled the Ducks lead 16 seconds later. The Ducks continued to apply pressure as Murphy scored once and Rogers scored twice over the next five minutes to give the Ducks a five goal advantage. After Arcadia struck at the 5:02 mark, the Ducks added three more goals before the end of the frame as Rogers tallied two more and Schmidt added another. Stevens led 8-1 after one.
The Ducks piled on four more goals within the first five minutes of the second quarter to extend their already commanding advantage. Rogers scored her 50th goal of the season with 13:37 to go while Sellitto added one and Lax added two more within the five minute timeframe. The two Emily's connected for a goal at the 9:46 mark as Leiby scored on an assist from Smart. Zarish-Yasunas, Velardi, and Hogan rounded out the second quarter scoring for the Ducks as they maintained a 16-1 lead at the half.
After halftime, Stevens came right out and added another goal less than a minute and a half into the third as Lax found the goal. Rogers tacked on her sixth of the game less than two minutes later. The Ducks pumped on the breaks a little on the frame as they only tacked on two more goals the rest of the way. Hogan and Guerra each got on the scoresheet to put the visitors up 20-1 going into the fourth.
With the game already in hand, the Ducks added on four more goals for a final tally of 24 for the game. Mangano scored the first of the quarter at the 11:11 mark. Guerra continued to steal the show as she scored three more goals in the period. Stevens held Arcadia to just seven total shots in the game while conceding just once.
Stevens did not score on either of their two free-position shots. Likewise, Arcadia went 0-4.
The Ducks held a 19 to nine advantage on draw controls in the contest. Rogers led the team with five while Leiby had four. Zoe Cook added two and five other Ducks had one.
Stevens corralled a total of 16 ground balls in the contest. Sellitto, Lax, senior Colleen Shea, and sophomore Marie Lindberger each led the team with two. Eight other Ducks recorded one.
Stevens caused 12 of the 15 Arcadia turnovers. Leiby led the team with three. First-year Eran Gleason had two. Seven other Ducks recorded one. The Knights only caused three of the nine Stevens turnovers.
Stevens went a perfect ten for ten on clears. The Knights were a solid eight for 11 on clears.
