MADISON, N.J. (April 12, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated FDU-Florham 9-0 Wednesday afternoon in a MAC Freedom matchup on the FDU Tennis Courts.
The Ducks won their sixth straight match to improve to 6-5 and to a perfect 5-0 in the MAC Freedom. The convincing victory was the Ducks' 11th straight in regular-season conference play.
Graduate Agatha Malinowski and junior Polina Odintseva got the Ducks off to a good start with a solid 8-3 victory at first doubles over Margaret Cronkhite and Ella Olsen. First-years Anya Sharma and Stephanie Untermeyer made it 2 for 2 with an 8-1 win at second doubles over Ashley Gaetani and Emily Prachthauser. Sophomore Emma Eguia and first-year Fionna Flores capped off the sweep with another 8-1 win over Kiana Rosa and Paula Vanegas.
As the play turned to singles, the Ducks continued to dominate the Devils, winning on all six lines. Untermeyer matched up with Cronkhite on line one and won 6-0, 6-0. Malinowsk posted another impressive 6-0, 6-0 decision on line two over Olsen, while sophomore Isabella Dona topped Gaetani 6-0, 6-4 on line three. Senior Juliette Marchisio continued the strong play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vanegas on line four. First-year Anusha Singh picked up another win on the day for the Ducks on line five with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Prachthauser. First-year Aliona Heitz rounded off the set of wins for the Ducks by taking down Rosa 6-2, 6-0.
